I have some questions about carrier bearings. My drive shaft moves around in it. Does this mean that I should replace it, or it needs to be replaced? Also; how do I replace this? Does the drive shaft slip out, or is it attached to the drive shaft?
Thanks guys
If its truly bad, pull the whole thing and take it a local driveline shop. They will be able to replace the parts that have failed. Your carrier bearing is usually connected to the frame with just 2 bolts.
No, I haven't noticed anything going on, or any noises coming from underneath, I know if it's real bad, that I will know it for sure. Shakes, and rattles. Not an expert here, but I would say that after looking at the pic of the replacement part, that the drive shaft would need to be pressed into the id of the bearing....not something you could do on the trail. Any drive ability issues or noises?

Yes, I can move it around. Has about 1/2"-3/4" play in it.
I don't really know anything about carrier bearings, because I don't have one. I do however have a couple extra ones in my garage. There for a 2nd gen, but if your truck uses the same one your welcome to it.
Matt (06AHOLE) gave them to me.Why in the world do you have those carrier bearings?
Can you isolate the slop to the bearing itself. Is it rubber mounted? I would find out exactly where the slop is.
Yes, slop seems to be in the bearing. Seems fine around ujoints. I'm not sure what the rubber mount means. The bearing, looking at it, is rubber. Looks like the drive shaft is just sitting in a rubber boot looking thing.

Save yourself some hassle.. just pull it and take it somewhere. If you don't know of a reputable DS place, contact a local 4WD shop and ask them who they use. Of hell, Toyota of Dallas, those guys seem to know WTF is going on with aftermarket goodies, I would imagine they know a good driveline shop.
Prolly a good idea. As you may have figured out, I have no idea what I am talking about. My parents did not bless me with many mechanical abilities.
Hopefully I can get something figured out tomorrow. I am on the road 13 hours with it on Friday.
