CB fixins.

Well, as it states I just picked all the fixins for a CB install. I was sick of hearing it from everyone for the last 5 years that I didn't have one. Anyway, I picked up the Cobra 29LTD BT, yeah the BT is sorta gimickie but I like the over all design of this radio. If anyone has any info to share on where they ran the power from post up, if not no biggie I'm sure being an electrician I should be able to figure it out.:D
Well, I will post up some install pics tomorrow when finished. Oh I picked up all the goods from a Pilot close by, they seem to have a good amount of stuff.

Were are you going to mount it? I put mine in the cubby hole under the radio and routed the power wires threw the grommet under the dash were the main comes in then down the inner fender to the battery with a 5 amp fuse inline

Yeah I just looked @ ur build and thats exactly where I was thinking of installing the radio. I only have one issue though with that location, this radio is a classic full size unit so that means I will need to break out the dremel and do some slicing. I first need to take the cubby out to see how much room is available, I know that the AB sensors are back there. I think I will run the power to the interior fuse block?

Yeah I had to do a little drimel work to get the antenna threw, the fuse block is a good idea I was just to lazy to bother...lol
I had a cobra 29LTD but I gave it to Rob because of size I wasn't sure it would fit in the cubby without cutting, I was thinking of replacing my factory radio and getting one of those double mounts and adding a new radio with cb under it like Drew did.

blooooothooooth!!!! Nice! I would love to have a headset that would silence the stereo on tx/rcv so ... well, you know why! ;)

Hmmmm weird I didn't see an electrical section last night? Anyway, Who would have thought it would take me 3 hours just to pick a location to mount this thing? I tossed around a bunch of ideas as to where I should mount it including in the center cubby behind the cup holders but after taking the center out my suspicions were right, not enough room because of the ABS sensor ECU.
So I figured the only place would be behind the center in the AC area. I have seen them mounted here before and thought this was a good spot as I wont be useing it everyday, yet didn't want to loose any more space in the AC area all be it very little. So this is what I choose to do.

Well, now I just need to do the wiring, install all the trim, and mount the antenna.

Yeah I had to cut the top portion out and down into the cup holders. The rest of it is un-touched, it fits nicely into the free-air space between the console and the back panel.
I got everything wired up antenna mount done. So all thats left is the SWR CAL. I guees I'm just way to picky about doing things is why it takes me so long to do any installs?

Pic installed in the truck.

Damn that looks good, makes me wish I would have kept my cobra 29, instead of giving it to Rob....lol

Not surprising that it took 3 hours just to pick a mounting location. It took me a week. Then I decided to trade the radio in for a cobra 75.

Yeah, there's not really any advantage to buying a more expensive CB in terms of performance, just features. The only feature I wish my Cobra 18 had is a PA setting.

Something my POS Midland has... which by the way has a 3 year warranty. I had a f'd up mic. Bought another one (hell they're $25!) accidentally put that mic into the new one. Called them - they sent me 2 new ones!!! :) Almost like Christmas all over!

I'd like to have the Bluetooth. Prolly use it a couple of times is all though. It would be nice to have on some of those conference calls while I am driving. I just wanted to say that, so I sounded important.

Figured no need to start a new thread about just an antenna. I ditched the Firestick and rail mount for a roof top Wilson 3000. It comes with a 62" whip but for what I need it for I went with a Wilson short load whip @ 36". I tell ya once I was able to get the SWR dialed in the transmit and receive crushes the Firestick! All I had to do is drill the 3/4" hole in the roof and rout the cable under the headliner.
