CB installed

That's Mr Asshole to you
I installed my Cobra 75 this weekend. I just have to get the antenna. I am going to get the 3' Firefly. I was going to order it but I found a shop near my work that has them for a good price so I will pick it up this week.
I used a mirror type antenna mount but I cut some plates out of alluminum to fit in the rail. It seems to be pretty sturdy. I ran the coax into the cab through a rubber grommet under the back seat. From there I ran the coax along the back wall and then under the door stills. From there I pulled the coax through the hole in the carpet under the front seat. Ran it into the center console under the trim piece for the shifter. That is the same place I installed the box for the radio.
Power wire was ran to the battery and I grounded it to the body of the truck.
I am excited to get the antenna put on and start having fun.

Yep. I am so ready for the beach. I need to get out of town and relax. Hope the fish are biting but if not we will have plenty of beer.

With that set up what kind of SWR are you getting with that?

Not sure since I don't have an antenna yet. Should get one tomorrow or Wednesday and I can let you know.

looks cool and well done!

I did a similar thing and could never get the SWR dialed in... It may have been a bad radio too.

Since then, I have two NMO mounts in my roof!

I just got home from a local CB shop I found. I learned quite a bit in a short time. I need to move my mount so I can get a proper ground. Also found out the antenna needs to be a foot behind the cab if mounted in the bed. I think I am going to mount the antenna closer to the tailgate. I also found out CB manufacture detune radios to ensure FCC guidelines are met. He said they offer a super tune for $30 and it gives at least 50% more range.

"local CB shop"... Just one more reason to like TX! I could find a lot of Tofu shops around here but no CB shops!!! Probably one of the reasons I am ham equipped! :)

We use to have a nice little shop in Bryan, I'm not sure why they closed but I use to get all my cb stuff there.

Then move to Texas. We even have meat markets here. You can go in and buy half a cow and tell the butcher how you want it cut up. You can buy a pistol, shot gun and a rifle at the same time with out a waiting period.
Houses cost a fraction as much and the highest concentration weirdos is in Austin.
We also dont have crazy wild fires, earth quakes or mud slides.

In case anyone wants to check out the CB shop's website. They were located about 1 hour west of Fr Worth but now they are in Weatherford, about 20 minutes west. Really nice guy and seemed to be upfront and honest with me.

We have a local CB shop here in San Antonio called KCOMM, I think I'll give them a call and see if they offer a similar service!

i wonder what the supertune entails and if they are able to do it on a Cobra 75? seeming as it's an all in one handset... i could probably stand to move my antenna back a little from my cab as well.

The guy said they can tune the Cobra 75. He said by doing a super tune it gains at least a 50% increase in range. He also said the difference between a 3' and 4' antenna was about 25%.

You can just run a ground wire to the antenna no problem - no need to move the mount. The small black wire in my pic is my ground. I grounded both separately just in case.

I have my antennas mounted directly behind my cab with no issues, but I am running duel 4' antennas. I am sure it would be better farther back, but since I have installed it I have really never used it offroad. Our trails are low and I bent the quick disconnect brackets my first time in the trails.
