Cell Phone Holder

I finally started looking for an easy solution to having my cell phone loose in the cab while driving. I use it for directions quite a bit so having it slide around on my laptop has gotten me in trouble with my wife more than once. I was not sure if I would like having it mounted at first so I did not want to spend a lot of money because I hate spending money. I did come across this charger/holder on the way back from Big Bend a couple of weeks ago. The truck stop had it on sale for $20 so I figured it was just expensive enough to be worth a shot. So far I am pretty happy with it although it would not be good off road. I am thinking about getting a cheap tablet to use for off road maps and such but will need a much better mount by then.

For display purposes only I used my wife's phone in the holder.

Look at ProClip. Not cheap but damn sturdy. I had one in my Tacoma and it was great. Haven't looked at adding one to the 4Runner yet but it's on the short list.

Will have to check them out. I had the back country demo on my phone at Big Bend and had a hard time using it because of the sliding around issue. Ultimately I would like to setup a couple of cameras on the front/back of my 4R for recording to a SSD drive on board. Think of it as a GoPro on steroids without the cost; controllable and view able from the tablet.

My problem with that mount is I do not keep my phone in a case. I know... I live on the dangerous side but I have never kept my Motorola Droids in a case and have never had a problem. I had one busted screen but the phone was dropped from counter height, on its side, onto concrete. I was surprised the phone stayed together at all.

My second thought would be using an old phone for dedicated GPS/ Back Country use.

You don't need to have it in a case. You can just stick the metal piece to the outside(comes with 3M tape) or take off the battery cover and it's slim enough to go inside the phone.
