Dear Katy ISD Parents and Community,
I hope you’re enjoying the warmer days we’ve had recently, especially after such a harsh winter. As you know, we had to close the District not only once, but twice this year due to inclement weather on January 24 and 28. Consequently, as required by the state, we have to use the two make-up days previously approved by the Katy ISD Board of Trustees. These days included February 17 and Memorial Day on May 26.
The Board of Trustees and I understand how important Memorial Day is for our families and staff. Although May 26 is considered a regular school day this year, we acknowledge that some families have their own way of honoring this day. However, because school will be in session we have been presented with a unique opportunity to create a day of learning that will include the honoring of fallen soldiers at campuses and District offices. I am excited to share that we will be accomplishing this in partnership with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 9182 whose members will be on hand May 26 at many of our campuses to share their experiences and to honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country. A variety of related activities involving the VFW, District staff and students will take place on our campuses that day.
Memorial Day will be a day of learning and instruction for our students, as well as for all of us to pay tribute to the brave men and women who have been or are now on the frontlines serving. As the day draws closer, we will provide you a list of Memorial Day activities that will be taking place at campuses and offices across the District.
During Memorial Day, we will be providing extensive coverage of our honorees and the special events taking place across the District through our website, Facebook and Twitter so please make sure to tune in.
