Hilux getting a nice update

They need to bring just to finally shake up the dated looks of the Tacoma if nothing else. I assume the torque drop with the manual is because they can't built a light enough clutch that can handle it.

Toyota keeps talking about a global chassis platform. It would make sense that the Hilux setup comes to North America at some point. Maybe it will be a renamed Hilux as a Tacoma but the actual vehicle would be a Hiux maybe. A lot of the features they have put into the Hilux make it comparable to the Tacoma for passenger comfort.

FTFY...

I wish. I might actually buy a Toyota again if they did.

I know Toyota's #'s are pretty good but IMHO they have been slipping way behind the times.....thus my Subaru Impreza purchase....not a Corolla or Camry purchase.

Now I see Subaru's #'s climbing like Toyota's used to.

Subaru changed over to a global chassis in 2016 I think... pretty sure my car was the last year of the old model in 2015.

Even Lexus was dying and had dropping numbers prior to covid.

IMO Toyota dropped the ball and allowed the Koreans and other's to get a strong foothold of old Yota customers they are now starting to take advantage of.

I bet it'll still come with rear drum brakes lol
No shit!!

That camry I had for a rental out in Cali had the adaptive cruise control, but the display looked like a fucking Atari games shitty graphics. Drum brakes and being so behind on everything else is going to kill Toyota.

The 2020 Hilux SR5 still has drum brakes in back. Toyota must have one heck of a stockpile of drums someplace.

My 1998 Ford Exploder had rear disc brakes and a anemic 4.slow under the hood..... boy how times have changed lol

my sisters 97* Exploder had rear disks as well.....but she was smart and got the 5.0 w/GT40 intake from the factory.

I'm starting to question Subaru reliability. A couple of weeks ago we took my wife's 2017 outback in because an o2 sensor went out. After we got it back it felt down in power and sounded like a lawnmower. Then three days after every light trips again and stays on for 2 days then they go back to normal for 2 days. Last Sunday they came back on and its been at the dealer since Tuesday. Friday we get a call and they still don't know what's wrong with it. Never had an issue take this long to diagnose in any of my Toyotas, Fords or BMWs. The Caddy is a ticking time bomb, but a fun one.

Not a big fan of the way Toyota has been going lately. My 03 is probably the newest Toyota I'll own. Would still like an FZJ80 at some point. But I'm pretty unimpressed with newer Toyota offerings.

I think they hit similar problems Toyota had when they were doing double digit % sales increases year/year and growing fast. Past 20 years their market share has gone from 1% to almost 5% so that growth will come with pains I suspect.

So far in 6 years and 84k Ive been what I consider to be lucky.

#1: had a air bag light come on (DS knee - just needed to be reset)

#2: 3 of 4 wheel bearings go bad (covered under purchased extended warranty)

#3: stress cracks started in hatchback near the spot welds on year one of ownership (old style flexible frame - not new more ridgid frame).

#4: off again on again bluetooth connectivity issues from time to time but not horrible.

#5: gone through 2 sets of tires in 84k so thats not pleasing. The AWD eats them up...I also take corners way too fast lol

#6: front brake pads gone before 50k (that blows IMO). Rears lasted to 80k (acceptable).

#7: Panasonic car battery shot at about 5-1/2 years (pretty darn good)

#8: DS seat bolstering shifted around year 5 and now feels like crfap. Not bad enough for me to fix yet, but annoying all the same

#9: dealer added remote entry wire harness puked out from under the dash and fell on top of my foot while driving scaring the crap out of me and luckily not causing any panic (dealer installed it in Feb sub zero temps - 3m tape didn't stick)

So nothing major yet. I got less than 5 years/20k to get my moneys worth out of the extended warranty. Think I paid 1k......and if I can get that 4th wheel bearing to blow I might not lose money. Who knows.... got 4 more years of time and about 16k left

Oh and I suspect the shocks are shot but Subaru will not warranty their replacement unless they are leaking.

Tell you one thing - Ive only had it aligned once (last month) and it was barley out so these things hold good alignment. Ive hopped city curbs and rural fire road downed tree's for many years and I was amazed it held so close to spec
