The 6.5 AR10 has arrived :)
Dad also picked up a Browning X-bolt in 6.5. Stainless steel with a camo pattern stock. Apparentaly it’s a new model they just released. I’m not the biggest fan of the color combo but the trigger feels absolutely amazing.

Got in a CMMG .22 conversion bolt + .22 magazine for my AR during the sales.

Pretty slick setup, you take out your .223 AR bolt and slide in the .22 bolt. Now you can shoot .22 out of your AR!

Edit: this is the .22 bolt and .22 magazine in the pic below. It's in my junk AR upper that I don't care about. I'll shoot whatever through this barrel since it's chrome lined and not accurate enough for me.

You guys have any recommendations on gun cleaning stands/vices that will work for very light amateur gunsmithing and cleaning? I was looking around last night on the web and all the ratings and opinions are overwhelming for someone who's not on any forums and pretty stupied with these things. I would prefer one that can also hold a pistol because cleaning behind the cylinder star while trying to hold it sucks

I just use a set of poly-urethane teeth that magnetically attach to my bench vise. Works really well... also my vise can rotate 360° as well so that helps.

I wish I had a vise. I'm looking at something like this so I can use it on my kitchen table lol
Hyskore® Sighting System and Cleaning Vise : Cabela's

My only gunsmithing would be changing sights on all my sligshots to fiber/tritium + mounting 2 scopes. Mainly use it for cleaning.

Which 6.5 did you get? I am having outside influences encourage me to pick up a 6.5 hole puncher for shooting matches in the area. Apparently everyone says the 300 WM is abusive and burns too much powder for just punching holes in paper for fun.

If you do 6.5 Creedmoor, I'd get a bolt gun.

If you want to do an AR Platform I'd go with 6.5 Grendel or the newest round .224 Valkyrie (both allow you to use your existing smallframe AR lower).

He got an AR-platform 6.5 Creedmoor. Look on the last page. He posted a picture of it. Looks like an M&P 10.

Anyone used Athlon scopes? A guy at work got one. Looks nice. They have them everywhere from a couple hundred to a couple thousand range. Not sure which one the guy I work with got but knowing him it was at least $1500.

My buddy got a $900 Athlon FFP for his .22. Yes you read that right...his .22 lol (it's a badass .22 though). I've used it and in my limited experience it was fine. Didn't ever compare it to my Vortex Razor though now that I think about it.

I know. I was giving that advice to @tx_shooter so he'll save money by reusing his existing AR lower and be able to plink more...

I've seen 6.5 Grendel used in person and it's nearly as capable as 6.5 Creedmoor with the added benefit of reusing your small frame lower.

The 300 weatherby I have kicks a little shooting at paper, but one could always put a muzzle brake on it to help with that. I haven’t because I usually only shoot it once, at an animal, and feel nothing. Also got a Browning X-bolt in 6.5 creedmoor that needs a scope and to be taken out. Hopefully the two new scopes will arrive before Christmas

It is the M&P 10. Can’t wait to get a scope on it and take it out. It feels super well built

I am doing some RO work at a tactical competition in the Spring. That has me looking at the bolt actions again for small round- long range shooting.
