Good friend of mine has several guns capable of 1000 yard shots. 338 Lapua and a 6.5 Creedmore and a couple more. Put the Creedmore in my buddies wifes hands and she hit a 4" plate at 1000 yards first shot. Impressive round... and she is an awesome shot.

I've had my eye on a 6.5 Creedmoor bolt gun for a while. Just can't get myself to spend $2000 on a gun that would be a safe queen. Sure would look pretty next to my .257 though. They would be identical other than the .257 being tan and the 6.5 being OD.

Mines definitely not a safe queen. I use the hell out of my guns :)

I used to use the hell out of my guns. I need to get back to the range more again; it just sucks how few good ranges there are around Ft Worth without paying an arm and a leg. I have thought about getting a deer lease mainly for range use.

I need to shoot more but like Zech said, there's not really anywhere good to shoot around here that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. And most of them have overzealous range officers. I get that they're there to keep people safe but it's kind of ridiculous to kick people out for leaving their bolt open when the range is cold instead of completely removing the bolt and carrying it down the range with you.

I've thought the same but most are too expensive or too far away for me. So that's why we try to shoot as much as we can when we go to my buddies deer lease (on the day we leave of course. Don't want to spook off the animals). The most annoying issue is we have to tear down the range everytime we go. So we have to lug the steel targets and stands to and from. It'd be nicer if we could leave it all set up and just have to pull up to shoot.

I've also looked at buying undeveloped property an hour or two from my house where I could shoot guns. But the majority of what I can afford (around 5 acres) always has a house next to it or behind the property or it's an odd lot size. I look every now and then but I should probably check more often.

Yeah I just got into a private gun club today actually. Open 7 days a week and members police themselves for the most part. I've been applying every year for the past three years to get an application for membership. Took my test today and got my card!

Statewide 10acs min.

Some Counties req. more but Sec. 229.002 May come into play as well, 10acs to 50acs depending on where and what your shooting.

(A) on a tract of land of 10 acres or more and more than 150 feet from a residence or occupied building located on another property; and

(B) in a manner not reasonably expected to cause a projectile to cross the boundary of the tract; or

(2) a center fire or rim fire rifle or pistol of any caliber discharged:

(A) on a tract of land of 50 acres or more and more than 300 feet from a residence or occupied building located on another property; and

Yeah my dad has 30 acres about 2 hours from my place but it's flat. Real flat. We'd have to bring in dirt and build a backstop to be able to shoot any kind of reasonable distance out there.

I saw a house for sale in Magnolia that had it's own private range that wasn't 10 acres. I'd assume you could get away with it if you had a berm or something that would keep the bullet from crossing a propertyline.

Has your dad ever wanted a pond? You can build a pond and use the dirt from that to build your berm (win win).

Yes, but he wants one at his house, not his property. The property already has a small pond and he's not interested in making it any larger or digging another one anytime soon.

Could be grandfather property shooting range, hell IDK cause they used to do the turkey shoot at the Knights of Columbus maybe 7acs across the street from our old neighborhood, I think the Woodlands lawsuits have shut that down by now.

Agri-business. Totally unrelated to my chosen career path, but whatever. I'm taking fun farm classes so I don't hate school as much and that's all I care about

Mine would definitely not be a safe queen. It would be a hog killing machine.

I hate gun ranges, only ever been to two. I just go down to the deer lease where we have a range set up. I'm wanting to set up a 800-1000ish yard range after deer season so that ought to be cool

I don't really have a use for 6.5 Creedmoor. I have my .257 Wby for deer and my 6.8 AR for hogs. But I want one.

Over 20% of the nations jobs revolve around agriculture, everyone has to eat, cotton, transportation, ethanol and natural resources.

It's sad the US is allowing the Chinese to buy up the brewery's, commercial nut, beef and pig farms
