7.5" will beat the shit out of you and it's components. The shortest I'd go in a .223 is 10.5".

...

+1 for 10" barrels for rifle calibers in pistol/SBRs. If you go with a pistol caliber then 8" or 10" is fine due to lower pressures. The only exception to that would be 10mm in my opinion.

@Silverback I forgot to mention that the sweet spot that everyone seems to love is 12.5". You still get good velocity at distance and it's short enough to run around your house at night playing oper8tor lol

The other exception is 300 BO. I have an 8.5" barrel for that one (and it's the barrel length the cartridge was built for as well).

After shooting the 8.5" and 10" side by side I prefer the 10". Completely unrelated; anyone want to buy a lightly used 8.5" barrel in 300 Blackout?

11" barrel? Would be easy to move around with.

I need to go water my money tree. I was shopping lightweight modular Rem700 LA stocks last night.

Yeah the 12" barrels are supposed to be a badass little setup. A ton of power in a short package ;)

Hmmm an sbr would be a sweet hunt/track setup for field work. Will have to check out the ballistics out if a 12" barrel. All the dope for the 6.5G says an 18 or 20 is the way to go for 400 to 600 yd shooting

Only specs I heard was the barrel length. The majority of the specs discussed was about the round.

Well he is from California... and a Democrap. So yeah, he's dumb as a fence post. At least a fence post has a use though... this guy.. well his mom should have just swallowed him.

Maybe on a budget build, lol
The most expensive part I recommend is the JP enterprises barrel because it comes with the high pressure bolt you need already (it's a part you have to buy anyways). You're getting a 3/4" MOA barrel all day long (it'll probably shoot better than that with quality ammo).

18" barrel
JP Rifles

Or a 22" barrel

Installed a 15" SLR handguard on my 16" upper and swapped out my SiCo brake for a Dead Air muzzle brake.

And swapped my .22LR barrel over to my DPMS upper since it fits my existing lowers better.

That's good looking. But tell me what are the rubber bands for?

They are called "Ranger bands". You take an old tire inner tube and cut it up into strips. They make fantastic, free, heavy duty bands for cable management.

Let's talk longish range bolt guns that are lightweight and for hunting.
After I get my AR built I want a semi custom bolt gun. I have 2 that use now and cover pretty much everything. 243 Ruger Mark II with wood stock. Other is a 30-06 Ruger Hawkeye in synthetic stainless.
I want something I can carry around, that's rugged, and able to reach out. Caliber has been a huge debate for me.
I had a .280 in the past and loved that caliber so that's on my list. So is a 7 mag due to being available in many platforms.
I have thought about the Nosler M48 rifle, Remington 700 mountain and fluting the bolt and drop in a nice trigger.
Let's hear some thoughts on caliber and rifle platforms.
Hunting rifle that can be versatile and is a little swanky is what I am after.
