Just Guns

That's Mr Asshole to you
I handled a few Tikkas at a gun shop down the road from my office. I was impressed at how smooth the action was but the stocks all seem to be cheaper. A lot of people drop the action into a better stock and now I know why.
This. I held a few and really wanted to like them based on reviews and price but I could not get past the stock and was not really looking to modify a gun when there is plenty available that felt better off the rack.
I fell in love with a Winchester Model 70 Extreme weather SS. Was not even looking at Winchesters so it was a total shock.
Everyone is different so hold and handle as many as you can to see what feels and fits you the best. Savage makes a great gun as well that is affordable. Dont write off Ruger either.

I dont have an issue with my stock other then it being wood/to nice to actually hunt with. And it's right hand, but I'm use to that lol

Didnt realize yours is wood. I only handled the synthetic stocks.

Yeah I have enough. eaten up and scratched up wood stock guns. I'll take synthetic anyday and just upgrade to a better stock if needed. My dad's Ruger American and my Weatherby Vanguard Sub-MOA are the only two systems athletic stocks I've found that I like though. The Weatherby is B&C. Not sure what Ruger uses. Its laminated though, not fiberglass or whatever the B&C is

Yeah my .270 is a Ruger American (left hand) and it's the one I actually hunt with. The action/trigger are not Tika, but I'm not scared to knock it about.

If you want to hunt with it might be limited to to 100-200 yards. Might start getting expansion problems after that
Yeah I'm not ethically gonna take an animal past that with this setup. My goal is to not have 20" of barrel sticking out the hunting blind window lol

I buy'em and shoot them has is, only time I take a gun apart is if I'm cleaning it or refinishing an old one. All this modification bs doesn't really interest me man. The only AR I have is a Ruger 556, and it does everything I need it to do (kill hogs) lol
The main flaw with most manufacturer rifle stocks is that they are designed for iron sights. So mounting a scope moves your head up so you need to buy a cheek riser or just deal with an uncomfortable head position. That leads to fatigue which leads to inaccuracy.

Most replacement stocks (the good ones at least) are designed to move your head more inline with the scope. The more comfortable you are, the more accurate you'll be. They also allow you to mount bipods, lights or other accessories on the rail. There's also recoil impulse improvement, the ability to use AICS mags and making sure the barrel is actually free floating among other things.

He was talking about a new stock for my Tika bolt action. My AR statement was just a general statement. My iron sights flip down and I have no issues getting a sight picture in the cheap ass red dot I have on it. I know I'm getting old, but i seem to remember being the only one other then Jason that could actually hit shit the last time we all went out hunting. Was it you or drew that blew the ass off a doe that I ended up having to put down with a pistol lol

I know. I was talking about a Tikka action as well.
You mean the doe that I winged and then Drew shot straight through the asshole? lol I don't want to post anymore details online but I will say "lower jaw hanging" and "slit throat" to jog your memory of that one.

Do you remember the three javelinas we alledgedly shot at the same time a little later? That was legit!

But I've definitely improved since that trip for sure. lol

You had me researching the laws again to see if there was something I'd missed in the past few months. lol

The ATF did just release a clarification letter a few months ago stating that if you had a folding stock then you had to measure from the end of the barrel to the folding stock. However, this mainly applies to MP5's or piston driven guns that don't require a buffer to operate. This was in response to so many people asking them questions about how to measure those types of guns so they could put VFG's on them. Dumbasses. Don't contact the ATF! Do your research first!

I missed this whole conversation. I will apply for the tax stamp. Easy enough to be safe.

I mean you're not breaking the law right now but it'd be good to have it anyways.
