Four years after allowing universal ‘concealed carry’ law, Maine rated the safest state in the nation for crime - California Political Review

In case you don't read that, a couple of highlights:

"Since 2015, residents of the state of Maine have been allowed to carry a concealed firearm without any special permit, and now the results are in: crime has fallen to the point where the state is now rated the safest in the nation from the threat of crime. The Maine Examiner reports:

When Maine passed a “Constitutional Carry” law allowing Maine residents to carry a concealed firearm without any special permit in 2015, opponents of the law forecast a dangerous future for the state. They said the new law would hurt public safety and put Maine kids at risk."

"As the Maine Examiner noted, second-ranking Vermont also has a constitutional carry law."

There’s only like 1.3 million residents and 7 months of fucking winter.

  • Other race: 0.22%
  • Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander: 0.02%

lol

Those stats seem very similar to those countries in the East who have guns w/o mass shooting and or issues. and that's why I want to go North. Somehow they have avoided the culture that has no value for the lives of others or their own. Nicer people moving at a slower pace enjoying life and following the laws while strapped playing in the snow. Seems like a dream to me.

Ive never had a bad trip to Maine and Ive been more than a few times. Nothing like catching your own lobster in the bay then eating it 2hrs later at home

I've had my eye on an 18" 5.56 AR. Keep going back and forth on buying or building. If I build, is there any reason to not go with 223 Wylde over 5.56?

I'm a novice at best so take what I say w/a grain of salt, but all the research I did led to me going with .223 Wylde.

There were no distinct disadvantages I could find anywhere including talking to members here - just advantages to be able to shoot just about anything.

Also Ive "heard" .223 is easier to find match grade ammo in, but I have no clue abotu that. Never bought .223 or 5.56 in my life....not yet that is :)

Yeah that's my thoughts as well. Haven't really found anything negative of going with the Wylde clambering. 95% of the time I'll be shooting .223 match grade through it anyway. Very rarely will I shoot any 5.56 through it. Just didnt know if I was overlooking anything.

I also didn't have a choice lol Rifle mfg I ordered from only sells .223 wylde

Maybe some loaders can chime in, but I checked some forums and none of those guys were saying anything bad about it or its effect on brass. Who knows though - I could of been checking the "TW of loading forums". I'm not in that loop.

The SBR stamp is probably the best bad investment I ever made. If you do one might as well do two

So I blame @Anathollo for this; but I ordered a JP roller trigger this afternoon. My basic trigger was not doing my JP 6.5 Grendel upper any favors so I decided to build the lower like the upper except this will be one part at a time. If you have not tried out a JP trigger - don't.

Also - I wonder how long it will be before Anathollo has a roller trigger in his Glock.

lol

Same trigger he recommended I buy......should be about 2-4 weeks away from getting my hands on mine. The leadtime is killing me due to anticipation.

It is a great trigger. I am hoping to have mine installed by this weekend. Then I will take my Grendel out and get it dirtier. Apparently the JP barrels really start to tighten up after a couple hundred rounds and getting dirty. I was doing some digging and many people report only cleaning the barrel once the groups open up. That is close to how we kept our M14 DMRs in the Marine Corps; I guess I was expecting something different since this is match grade hardware. But dirty is repeatable; clean is not.

Ive read so many different takes on breaking them in my head is spinning. Think I'm going with cleaning after each round for first ten. Then clean it every 20 until I get to 60. JP recommends cleaning every 10-20 rounds up to 60 or so (I think I remember). Few older military snipers say clean after every round for first 10-20. Thinking Ill combine both. Not like I'm in a rush. Still haven't figured out ammo yet. Stupied NJ hollow point laws can suck it.

I have used the process of cleaning after each shot for the first ten, then once after 20, then as needed or changing powders. That I how I broke in my 300WM and it was shooting .5 mil when I ran out the brass for it.

Only reason to get 5.56 is if you are planning on shooting tracers. Otherwise just get the .223 Wylde chamber. You can still shoot 5.56 through it.
