Sold my Scalarworks 1.42" RMR mount to a buddy and bought the Scalarworks 1.57" RMR mount to replace it. I wanted the slightly higher mount. So far I'm really liking it.

Ordered and got in a Streamlight TLR-7A to try out. I can conceal carry my Surefire X300U for a few hours but after that it starts to dig into my junk. So this flush mounted streamlight will hopefully alleviate that. I guess there are some downsides to being well-endowed lol the cheapest and fastest shipping was from Amazon. It was ~$25 cheaper and I got it the next day.

The light output from this light is great and the switched on it are awesome. Time will tell on how durable it is...

I knew about the upper/lower issue the ATF has been fighting to keep out of case law. They have dropped charges against a small number of people over that "error". The latest proposed changes are news to me though. I had heard from an SOT friend that they were supposed to try to change it but lost track of the progress.

And yeah - I have a comment for them.

Shame you do not have any guns. We need more responsible gun owners for other people to see that not all gun owners are crazy people.

So long as they aren't "taxed" I agree.

Otherwise I'm not a fan of losing my rights just to have one of them or own a sbr or a automatic.

That's what took down fps Russia back in the day. States warrant to search for "drugs" aka 1/2oz of weed was deemed illegal. Fed stepped in and used his "search anytime" clause in his gun paperwork to charge him federally. Served 4 months in jail, 2 years probation, almost 500k in lawyers all cause he had cool guns he said the gubment could search and see anytime.

Then they took over 500k in guns and hes a felon so byby 2a rights for life

IIRC that's because he was listed on the SOT with his partner who got murdered. At the time, Kyle (FPS Russia) was a suspect and they got a warrant for him for "suspicion of wearing shorts" (which was later thrown out and he was charged with a Federal crime of weed possession). Having an SOT is a completely different animal there...and Kyle should've thrown that weed out as soon as he found out his partner was killed. Apparently the government returned a few firearms back to him when he got out of Federal prison (which was a surprise to him). I think he's trying to find a lawyer to take the government back to court to fight for 2A rights again or he's going to move to Canada.

But just purchasing a $200 tax stamp for a suppressor, that is not subjecting you to a warrantless search or you losing your rights. The only law enforcement agency that can legally ask for your suppressor registration is a ATF or IRS agent.

Hmm... I listen to his podcast on "woodysgamer" channel and thought the timeline was totally different. Weed bust was years later I thought. Guns never returned cause he cant own any. I knew he was a "dealer" but thought it was the tax mans paperwork that got him. Idk but I've always stayed faaaaaaaaar away from that stuff to insure maximum privacy. I'll have to look again but I could swear having stamps = less privacy rights

"I could swear having stamps = less privacy rights" is a common myth. The only agencies technically allowed to see your tax stamps are the ATF and IRS. They would both need a warrant to go into your home.

If you own an SOT and run that SOT out of your house, then yes, you're subjected a yearly or two-year inspection by the ATF (can't remember which). They call you in advance to setup a meeting typically. And yes, you would have to let them into your house or business so they can do their inspection. However, if you refuse the inspection, then they will get a warrant to go into your property as well as take away your SOT license (in Kyle's case, they got a warrant to search him and his property on "suspicion of wearing shorts"). They still had to get a warrant first.

But also think about it, if you're applying for a tax stamp, paying the $200 tax and submitting your paperwork, passport photos & ID cards, then you're following the current law so why would the ATF or any other police agency give a shit about you? You aren't the ones they're worried about.

Here's an old reddit thread about crimes committed with a legally registered and possessed NFA item. I'm not talking about crimes committed with stolen NFA items by criminals.

So I was wrong and they cant just search. They can demand you show proof of registration at anytime and that could be a pita, but I did see somewhere that if you want max privacy having your name on lists in the atf isnt the best thing.

Idk, I cant own any of that fun stuff cause nj

Only guy I know who owns a machine gun is a high ranked leo and even they cant own silencers here

"They can demand you show proof of registration at anytime"- again, only an ATF or IRS agent can demand that.

Yes, a common police officer could demand to see it as well and you could legally tell him "NO" because he is not an ATF or IRS agent, however, you'll probably take a ride downtown which isn't worth it.

I keep copies of my tax stamp forms in my G-drive, digital copies on my phone, physical copies in my truck and gun cases. The law states that you have to show proof in a timely manner. That could be interpreted as I'll email the officer a copy when I get home or I'll mail a copy to the agent by snail mail.
