Looking for a Mechanic to do a 3vze for an 5vzfe engine swap in San Antionio, TX Area

I have a 1992 Toyota Truck, deluxe 4WD extended cab, with an Automatic Transmision; engine Type 3.0L V6 OHV. The 3VZ-E engine developed a lower engine knock. I took it to a mechanic and asked him to pull the engine and take it a machine shop for a rebuild. After a week or so he tells me he is concerned about rebuilding the engine because the machine shop might need to bore it out too much?

He recommended buying a used 3VZ-E engine with 159,000 miles for $2800, which seems steep to me, and it would come with unknown issues. I guess the 3VZ-E engines are hard to find now.

I was thinking it might be better to have a 5VZ-FE installed, but I don’t think the mechanic I have now has any experience with this. I’m not a mechanic so I’m looking for shop in the San Antonio, TX area that can do the work – any suggestions?

Don't think we have many active members in the SA area. Best I can offer is if you don't mind dragging it up to the DFW area, Tandem Off-road would for sure be able to knock it out for you. Some of the Houston members here will probably have recommendations for a shop there as well.

The 5VZ upgrade really is the way to go. Sorry, I am not familiar with shops around San Antonio.

I'm semi local, give Brandon a call, he does awesome work and reasonable.
I met him a few times and had him rebuild shocks, and press in new joints.
