Talk to me about firewood. I see on that Richland campsite website it says not to bring in or take firewood. What did you guys do for firewood last year?

Ive seen that at many of our NE campgrounds because our pine trees are getting decimated. Any wood heat treated and stamped "USDA APHIS" can be taken into any campground so far as I know.

Oooooorrrr you could just put a 102" whip on your CB and talk for miles and recieve for way more miles than you want to like meeeee

Yeah we definitely need to stay at the spot we stayed the second night. I'm down for leaving first thing in the morning this year rather than after lunch and camping the first night too rather than staying in town.
x1 trillion on this camping spot

and he obviously doesn't know how far a vehicle mounted 2m can reach out. I've picked up transmissions from San Antonio.. 75+ miles away with nothing more than a 3' antenna.

Think they're referring more to quality and clarity than just range.
My CB quality improved a lot when I switched from the FireStik. It's just slightly obnoxious to have that giant antenna.

I have been considering getting a mobile HAM setup though...

I have a 102" as well. Was skip jumping signals across the country (DX).

Don't mind the CB haters. Some of us still rock them. HAM is useless for what I primarily "used" my CB for when my truck ran.

I'm glad you clarified that. :stick: lol

Its also pretty hard for a 5 watt CB to compete with a 50+ watt HAM. Antenna wise, I have had multiple Firestix and FireFlys and they are always "ok". I am sure the bigger the antenna the better reception/transmission. But I'm not sure where I would put a 102" antenna.

Oh I'm sure a CB can't touch a HAM in terms of performance. I'm only saying that the 102" antenna performs the best of any fiberglass antenna I've had experience with. It surprised me. I have mine at the back corner of the bed and I pull it forward to a tiedown on the roof when not in use

I may or may not have used it without a license. Just saying.
I can not confirm nor deny that the majority of my friends have one either. BTW - I was out wheeling the other day and as long as I wasn't in a deep canyon, I was talking with a friend that was about 20 miles away - probably 15 as the crow flys (ATCF). I heard him fine and he guided me and my friend in. He was using one of those Chinese handhelds without an external ant. You can always do a relatively inexpensive upgrade by getting an external ant.

A just shed a tear. New truck "running" plan is spring.

Mines mounted just like MatthewMays. They are very dangerous in trails with low hanging trees. They aren't called whips for nothing.

Eh, keeping it tied down when people are around enhances the safety, or just don't stand closer than 9 feet or so when the truck is in motion. You really shouldn't be that close anyway, especially if the truck is rocking and rolling on uneven terrain.

Anybody know if you can mod a 10m HAM to transmit on CB freqs and if you can use one antenna for it all?

I don't know for sure but I'm pretty sure this has been asked before and Roger said no.
