October 6-9 Arkansas hunt for the toothbrush inventor

I learn as I go
Guys, I have some news.

It is with a very heavy heart that I am going to have to back out of this trip. The opportunity came up for me to do a semester abroad at the University of Newcastle, Australia. After this coming fall semester I will be too close to graduating and a semester abroad wouldn't be worth anything in terms of credits. It's now or never. I feel I would be foolish to give up three months in the land down under during a time in my life when I have no wife, kids, house or bills. That being said, I intend to watch this forum like a hawk for photos and videos. It was a difficult decision for me to give up one of my remaining two fall seasons in Arkansas, but I think it will be worth it. After my semester abroad, I will only have one more fall and one more spring here at the U of A. This trip last year was without a doubt the highlight of my year. It was by far the most fun I've ever had camping and I was lucky to go with a great group of guys. I hope whoever fills my place will have the same experience I did. Maybe I'll be able to go camping in Australia with all the deadly creatures...That sounds exciting!

@Silverback, Guess you're going to have to remove me from the list :(:(:(
Dude, you suck.
But that's awesome and good for you. I'll be graduated anyway and working. If we're taking names on bringing diesels back.. Put me down for a diesel LC as well.

Hell yeah! Go do it. I've always wanted to have me an Australian or kiwi girl. :) I always regret not going to Salamanca Spain to learn Spanish for a semester.

That is a great excuse to miss a trip.

I just drove up to Fayetteville at the end of Spring Break and I took a route that I think y'all should consider for the drive up to this area. It took about an extra hour, but it was a lot more fun than watching semi trucks on the interstate. I went from Dallas to Paris, Idabel, Broken Bow, Poteau, Fort Smith, then Interstate up to Fayetteville. I'll attach a screenshot of the route. I think it was highway 259 North in Oklahoma that was the best part....I think. I'll pay more attention when I drive back to Dallas at the end of the semester. You may even be able to route through Mena, AR and get more into the National Forest there, but it might take longer to get to Fort Smith. I had fun on this route

Still hoping to make this. Have a new boss and have to get my vacation reapproved. We're supposed to be in the middle of a maintenance outage the time of this trip so we'll see if he approves it.

It took about 6 hours from my mother's house to my apartment in Fayetteville. I figured y'all would be going to Harrison to start the trip, so I plotted the route to there.
His map shows

7h 38m. Put your readers on you old man.

Another option is to take 30 east and catch 259 into Idabel and Broken Bow.
You could take 30, but from where my mother lives, 75 is the better option so I went that way

Edit: For this, I started it at "Dallas, TX," so Google is probably adding 30 minutes to get out of downtown

Don't think I've been camping since we did this trip last May. Almost a year ago, damn. Going to a local state park this weekend. Won't be the same but it won't be terrible either.

These photos are from that highway 259 I believe. There are all sorts of trails leading off the main road

AR highest point is only like 2800ft above sea level, which was a mild hike for my boys, but that picture looks deceiving

Where was that takin at?

I'm guessing off highway 259 north of broken bow, ok.

Oh ok didn't view his route this morning, probably in Oklahoma then.

For scout camp we're taking 71 north of New Boston headed towards Mena
