I started on the DS.. just took measurements and started cutting and grinding. Something tells me this one will be much stronger. LOL

True, now I have some shiny black spots on the rig. LOL But I might paint the whole thing self-etching primer color. :D

I like the kickout!

Thanks Keith.

Got a little done on the DS. It has a nice 1/16" gap all around to get good penetration when I finally weld it up.

I loaned out my welding gas bottle to a buddy. He's bringing it over tomorrow morning so I can finish this up. My only thought is that the shaft will be so beefy that I'll end up breaking an output flange or pinion flange.

Doors look great man, drive shaft is coming along too, how do you balance a square shaft....or do you at all?

I wouldn't be concerned with the flanges, just the output shaft on the case i've seen those fail a couple of times now, doubles just add massive amounts of torque to the whole system.

Just an excuse to upgrade to chromo output shafts IMO.

looking good Sean, fast progress so far.

Try to keep a least one pic of a beer can(s) each picture, that way it might lead up to a sponsor for the rig...lol

I laid down several welds over the small end.

I'll install it tomorrow once the paint dries. I also need to grease it up.

Did you somehow cap the inner tube and vent the outer so that all the grease particles will stay at the party as long as they can?

No, not at all. I plan to simply apply a coat of grease to the shafts when I slide them together. I thought about tapping the outer tube for zirks, and then when I don't need them I would remove them and install allen head plugs. But since its a low speed thrill ride and not used much, I think that I can just disconnect the pinion end and grease the shaft as needed. I also thought about painting the tubing with the graphite impregnated paint I have. http://www.tractorsupply.com/harves...z-slide-graphite-based-coating-1-gal--2120107

I think that disconnecting idea is gonna work until the first time you have to disconnect it to grease them, at which point it will end up on a drill press so you don't have to do it again. There was a guy on pirate who made one out of some larger material and sleeved it with UHMW I think that would be the ticket if you ever built another one.
