I guess this is more of a fabrication question but I've been reading up on cages (and specifically a hybrid one that I want in this runner) and I've seen them tied to the frame in a few different ways.

There are some frame tie in kits with bushings, I think for better ride quality more than anything. You can also go from the tube, through the body of the vehicle and weld a plate for more surface contact and tie the tube in that way. I've also seen something pictured below, I drew this up in fusion 360 real quick .. basically it's a sammich plate for the body. You would weld the tube in this plate and have a plate similar to it under the body welded to the frame and you would bolt the plates together. I am thinking it just makes the body more stiff which it's a trail rig only so I don't mind. Are these assumptions I am making correct? I hate to ask on pirate lol

Or you could just use two pieces of flat plate with 4 holes in them and sandwich the body. While the above looks cool, you are sacrificing a bit of strength with the missing material in the centers. Plus with the flat plate you can land the tube where you need it and not worry that you are too close to a firewall or side panel to fit the bolts in.

I had it made and was just playing around, this is the original one I made.

So instead of a hole in the middle you would leave it full, bevel the tube for more penetration?

I would leave the hole out. Example, lets say the B pillar hoop comes down tight along the inside of the body. It won't "land" in the center of that plate, it would land near the edge. IMHO, the hole is not required. I know on the cage I put in my 4Runner I had flat plates and I can only think of one that landed near the middle... that was the one in the rear behind the wheelwell.

Here you can see my A pillar mount. Had to get at it in a corner.

You need more surface area on the plate to spread the load across the frame.

Surface-to-surface is the goal on this to help prevent the body metal from ripping when the roll cage is used.

Here is the 14 bolt, thought I put a pic but guess not. The guy I got it from had it setup for a 4 link, I’m planning on 3 link with a panhard, truss is already installed .. $250 all said and done
