Yup, it's gotta make the starter fail sooner. My wife's car has that option but it also has a button to turn it off as well. It's really annoying when you need to punch it from a stop sign and you have to wait the extra second for the car to turn back on. My wife is now in the habit of hitting the button right before she shifts the car into drive.I don’t know how it wouldn’t add wear/tear to the starter. I don’t think the cylinder cutout is good either long term. If you keep one around long enough then half the damn (cylinders) engine will end up with more wear then the other half.
She also has a secondary battery that runs all the electronics when the car is off. It went out but Volvo replaced it already.
