I read an autobiography of a Huey pilot in Viet Nam. He said if he hadn't been buzzed for a lot of the time, he probably wouldn't have done the crazy shit he did to get guys out of hot LZ's. He said the alcohol calmed his nerves and helped him fly steadier.
