Precooked rice is a staple of my pantry. It has a OK shelf life of 2+ years, is organic, and helps you mix up the dehydrated meals. Just add a little meat/protein of your choice and you have a good/balanced meal. All you need to do is heat it up.
I'm sure raw rice woul dbe better for large stockpiles, but I'm one person and I use my "emergency food" as normal food I eat...except for the mountain house stuff - that stuff I don't need to rotate stock on because most of mine is good past 2045
I stockpile carbs. They last pretty long and it's all about calories and carbs for my meals. The rice also offsets the high sodium content of the dehydrated meals.
Also - you guys have a kick ass company in TX that I think is MUCH better than mountain house....
Packit Gourmet Backpacking Meals and Groceries
Little pricey and they don;t have the shelf life of mountain house, but it is what it is when you don't want to eat chemicals you can't even pronounce the names of.
