Took a day off work yesterday to run errands and go test drive the new GX550. It's the first body style of an SUV that's come out in awhile that I've really liked.
The Lexus dealer ONLY had the Overtrail + to test drive.
Pros-
Interior and exterior are great. No notes there.
Engine- has plenty of power and pickup. Really responsive throttle.
Cameras- The 360° cameras in this are freaking awesome. They even has one that looks at the bottom of the truck so you can see obstacles underneath. The software was really fast and there was no lag on the cameras.
Cons-
Price. No reason this should be more expensive than the TX350.
Ride quality- It was atrocious. I felt every crack in the road (I'm not kidding). My Aunt's 2003 4Runner has a better ride than this thing. It's unreal that they think this is an acceptable ride on a 100k+ SUV.
Interior Noise- If they're going to charge this much for the SUV, then at least put acoustical glass in it for a quieter interior.
MPG- I feel like they could've tuned the engine a bit better to get better MPG. From the forums people are getting anywhere from 12MPG up to 19MPG.
Overtrail doesn't have the 3rd row seat but the cup holders and all that are still in the back. For the price you pay for this SUV, they couldn't made a new interior panel that got rid of that stuff so you get that interior space back.
Availability- You have to wait 4-6 months to get a Premium +. If you want an Overtrail & Overtrail +, those are available immediately (because they cost so damn much). Luxury & Luxury + is about a 2 month wait. You can forget about getting the Premium level trim as they barely make any of those at the moment. You are also kinda SOL on the interior and exterior color, you have to put a deposit down and tell the dealer that you want these couple of colors with these couple of interior colors and then wait until one gets allocated to that dealer.
We test drove a car I hadn't even considered, the TX350, and it was really nice. More of a car than a truck and we really liked it. Interior is really comfortable and I really liked the way the buttons & controls are setup towards the driver. We'll probably get the TX500h at some point in the future as my wife wants the F spec interior and the better MPG of the hybrid (she's the one buying it for us on her salary, not me

, also both of our Volvos are the racing spec as well so we're both used to that setup). I need more of a family car at this stage in my life so I'll have room to take stuff & my kiddos + their friends around and I'll get something like the GX550 in a 10+ years when I don't need a family car anymore.
We're currently looking at giving our S60 to my MIL for her around town car as that car is getting up there in mileage, it's exactly what she wants in a car, and the shitty Houston roads are slowly beating that car to death. I've gone back and forth over getting rid of the Tacoma and getting another truck instead but I really don't like the current trucks available on the market so I'm just going to keep it in the garage to use when I need it. I also really like having 3 vehicles (so if one goes down, you have a backup to use). That's been really handy the past 4 years for us.
