The issue of trying to raise a kid today is something my sammich maker and I have discussed a lot. It seems that society is becoming more and more successful in making it very difficult to raise a kid now.

This is true.

We were warned before having kids, and my response was something to the effect of "if only stupid/evil people have kids then the world is going to become more stupid/evil. Someone has to raise smart/good kids so that there can still be some intelligence/good in the world."

As much as I did not like Colt McCoy as a football player (UT QB circa 2006), I strongly agree with a quote his dad said at an FCA fundraiser about raising kids. I'm not sure of the exact quote, but here is how I remember it:

"You have to prepare your kid for the road, and not the road for your kid. Too many parents today are preparing the road for their kids and they grow up not learning how to deal with adversity."

If good people like you stop having kids, then the idiots and fuckheads will take over. My 1.5 year old, with great effort and struggle, climbed up my leg last night while I was sitting on the couch and wrapped her little arms around my neck to give me a strangle hold hug. Then she crawled down and ran off to go play. Makes it all worth it man.
