Got the harder part of prep done this morning.
All paintable surfaces gets wiped down, then masked off, then joints get a fresh bead of silicon, hoping to get all prep work done, maybe even paint today.

For interior the cheap 9’ x 400’ plastic is good, but stick with the 3M plastic for exterior, cause when you ready to paint pull the plastic down and go, that cheap roll of plastic unfolds soon as it unrolls from the box, and if there is a slight breeze you have to secure the edges and bottom down.

House was built in 95, this will be 3rd coat of paint, sticking with the same color, cause if I miss a small spot, less noticeable and 1 good coat is enough.

One week later, the entire house, gutters and garage doors is now painted and all seams/corners were siliconed! gonna leave masking up to see if I missed a spot tomorrow after everything is good and dry. I’m pretty sure I got everything coated.
1 downspout on house needs to be replaced, and 2 on the 3 car garage, and most of the bottoms will get replaced from the tree rats chewing on them. Sprayed the new gutter parts as well today. Damn I’m wore out.

Gonna take a day to clean up and reinstall fixtures, I ordered 4 new front porch lights, nothing to special, so I’ll be waiting on those.

Ive never seen perpendicular cut roof joists with gutters spaced out like that. wonder why they did that? is that the norm down there?

seems like it may be easier/more efficient framing with one less cut per joist....? or was it designed to not have gutters and they were added?

so ironic - I spent the day being a free super for my mom and keeping an eye on a gutter/soffit sub as she had hers replaced. turns out having a drip edge is important if you don't want your soffits/fascias rotting out. took 50+ years for it to go but it started rotting the ends of the joists so it was time

if she had a rancher like me I would of taken on the soffits but for 2k for everything (soffits/fascia board/cladding/gutters/downspouts/drip edge) I let the pro's knock it out.

Don’t know, but I have seen a few houses like that, I’m thinking it’s a design to eliminate moisture. There was zero signs of any rot, I hand washed every painted surfaced.

I need to repaint the outside trim on the house. But this guy doesn't do ladders anymore, I'll get someone to do it.

I got a couple quotes last year, they avg about $6,500 for the house and 3 car detached, that didn’t include fixing the gutters and I know they would not have masked everything off like I did to have cleaner paint lines, they would have held up the paint shield along the trim and sprayed... I have less than $700 in materials and that includes the gutters.

I had a guy come out yesterday and redo our main entry door, rain and sun had beat the finish to shit and he did a great job and was fair in his pricing. I might have him come give me a quote.

I can't wait until I can ween myself from even owning a TV anymore. Thats the next goal after I stopped using a microwave a couple years ago. With tablets, PC's and phones these days my TV rarely gets used

What's wrong with using a microwave? Not that I use mine that much either. I also have the TV on all day since I've been working from home but find that I don't actually watch anything, just more background noise. I could get away with just leaving some music on.

Perhaps the shingle overhang would have been too far if the gutters not spaced out, the roof pitch looks a little lower than I'm used to seeing in a standard build. I learned about drip edge when I was inspecting my house and found they skimped on parts, causing water to roll down the back of the gutter and behind the fascia.

What's wrong with using a microwave? Not that I use mine that much either. I also have the TV on all day since I've been working from home but find that I don't actually watch anything, just more background noise. I could get away with just leaving some music on.

Nothing wrong with it for you guys. I just found myself eating junk in it so when it broke I didn't replace it. Then when I needed a new fridge I got a complete kitchen set and never hooked the new microwave up because I got used to not having one.

I also went down a clean cooking rabbit hole and got rid of all my aluminum or plastic anything 2-3 or so years ago. Everything I have now is either wood, stainless, cast iron, glass or titanium so 99% of thats not microwave friendly except for my Pyrex.

In the end I just don't mind waiting a little bit if it helps me cook healthier food.

I can probably count on both hands how many times I've used my microwave at home in the last couple of years. I use them at work though. Nothing against them just don't eat a lot of stuff at home that requires reheating.

I use mine for breakfast pretty much daily during the weekdays. I eat one of these. Sodium is higher than I would like but I don't put salt on anything so I am not getting too much sodium.

yep, thats the exact kind of stuff I was eating. Frozen burritos, frozen breakfast sandwiches, frozen dinners, etc....seems something like 90% of the highly processed food I was eating was being cooked in it.

thats my #1 regert.... reheating meals is allot tougher w/o a microwave for sure. Ive noticed myself changing how much I cook so that I do not have extra so I don't need to reheat it.

Either that + covid or whatever is working. Been below 200# for almost a month now and I haven't been at that fighting weight since I was 25. Also helps I'm doing manual labor outside now vs pushing paper behind a desk

OH and by losing a microwave I added a toaster oven...

yeah man, be prepared for sticker shock! My wife did the same... even went to the Container Store and had them "build one out" and it was like $5500 not installed. We ended up hiring some local contractor to do a built-in for us. I should have just done it myself but the wife was arguing about what it needed to have. Laws of physics didn't need to apply in the closet.. she didn't like it when I told her that "X" would not work, but when the contractor told her the same it was cool. So fuck it, have him do it.

I think the reason the prices are so high is because "women". I mean supply/demand.....they know they have you by the balls. I fit out my master walk in with that white wire stuff that was already here in the house and added a cedar "band" to it. Can't beat free kinda. I do need to fix up my other closets and pantry this winter but I'm not spending much. Ill either get more white wire or use cedar. I got a bunch of left over cedar from birdhouses I built my mom years ago and the closets perfect for it.

I need to get a shoe organizer so I can centrally locate everything. starting to get crazy. before my camping trip I hit up the closet I keep that kinda stuff in (4 bedrooms and 1 person so I spread out clothes/shoes between closets) and found two pair of brand new Salamon gortex pair of shoes I don't even remember buying.
