Brought home a new-to-me generator today. A friend bought it for his house and then came into some money so he bought a full house generator instead. This will work for this house at 9500w peak and 7500w running. Now I need to make sure I have the right cables to connect it and then back feed the panel.

I had an electrician come out and install a generator plug outside the garage, whole home surge protector, 240v outlet inside the garage, an interlock switch, and an alarm to alert when grid power is available. It was much more affordable than I was expecting....Then I moved. Pretty cool setup for a portable generator. It allows the user to specify which circuits are powered at a given time. It requires more brain power to be sure the generator is not overloaded, but it allows more flexibility over a hardwired transfer switch with an emergency bus (if the genny is not powerful enough to run the entire house).

I am debating costs vs resale value now.

I’ve been spending money on pool fixes lately. First was the cleaning robot, then the main control panel went out. Fuck.. then the heater controller and then a heater sensor. Then a circuit breaker and then the secondary pump for the spillways and swim deck bubbler. Wife said that she has been getting calls and folks asking if we want to sell it. I said to ask for a price they would pay. lol But fuck I am $6k into this so far. Still need to replace 3 pool lights. They are $1600 a pop… not including install.

That's Mr Asshole to you
And here we are in talks about possible selling to buy a little bigger house with a pool. Maybe a community pool is the better way to go.

Pools, boats, and fast cars - all best when you have a friend that owns it.

Keep it down there. We have had a few rounds up here already.
Yep, I told my wife that as long as my mom has her pool, I REFUSE to have one at my house. One pool per family is enough expense and maintenance.

Yeah last year my mom had to replace the pool sweeper, main filter tank (she got about 16 years out of the old one) and both pumps.
This year the main pool pump went out, was replaced under warranty which blew up two weeks later and was then replaced again under warranty.

I wanted a house with a pool. Still do. But my wife was adamantly against it when we were looking at houses. Two years into having our house and she wants a pool. Told her there's absolutely no way I'm paying $100k or whatever it costs these days for a pool. She had her chance and refused. My parents were going to build a pool at their new house but decided against building when they saw the cost. $480k to build an 1800sq ft house. That was without the shop or pool. Didn't make sense to downsize if they were only breaking even in the end. Going to hold on to the land and reassess in a few years once my dad gets through his kidney transplant (hopefully it's not more than a couple years away).

I’ve lived with two pools so far. They’re not awful as long as you are willing to keep up with them and have quality equipment. I don’t have a pool now and I miss it some days. I will say that Polaris cleaners deserve a special place in hell. I don’t understand why they must make everything out of thin cheap plastic that gets destroyed by the sun so quickly. The price they charge for that cheap plastic crap is insane. There has got to be a better material to build those things out of.
