High winds cause mine to go out semi-regularly.
Well this past week was utter shit on the home improvement front.
I was out of town last weekend when the hot water output from the water heater decided to spring a leak. Great. Luckily our dog walker came over to feed our bullmastiff and called us quickly. She cut the hot water off and the leak stopped. It leaked enough to saturate an 8x8 area in our ceiling. It decided to crater on monday creating a huge mess. I spent most of the afternoon cleaning that up and inhaling god know how much rock wool insulation. Got the leak fixed with a compression coupling, the old stuff demoed, replaced and textured with a local guy that does work in the neighborhood. He will be back to paint on Wednesday.
Here is the kicker. The water heater is on ground level in my house which is a 1 story. The water lines that feed the rest of the house are in the ceiling. Naturally it was in a tight place where my big ass couldn't fit. When the ceiling caved in I had some access. Lucky me![]()

Sucks but be thankful it was not a slab leak and cost a lot more to fix.

Pier and beam 60's era home. I got lucky...
They typically don't make it roomy enough for 'modern' sized belly's!!!
Slab leaks suck. I truly wish builders thought a bit more like maintenance people. One apartment complex that I sold was built by the owner. ALL of the plumbing and gas lines were exposed in the back of the building. It looked like crap but was very, very functional!![]()
) and rebar so that the roads wouldn't sink as bad. Like the Europeans do with their roads.Seriously. I wished the building code called for the slabs to be twice as thick or at least have more piers to support sinking in the swamp that is Houston. Also I wish the roads here had to have double the amount of specialized compacted soil (can't think of the term as I haven't had my coffee yet) and rebar so that the roads wouldn't sink as bad. Like the Europeans do with their roads.
The only magazines I keep any more are Overland Journal and Crawl. The rest get pitched within a few months of reading. Oh and I keep that Book of the AR15 that comes out once a qtr or so. I used to have mountains of magazines though.
