Any reason not to make the cabinets on the fridge side extra deep?

With all of the refrigerators being close to 35" deep, it seems like the builder should have made them deeper. I guess we will see how it looks.

I went with the 25 cu ft French door based on availability. I may change it to the cheaper side by side that is about the same storage space. I'd save about $700 up front and save about an inch in depth. I'd also shift storage space for more freezer and less fridge, and give up the energy star rating for whatever that is worth.

Most of the Samsung fridges have problems with the ice makers. Class Action lawsuit pending ...

Samsung Fridges start to have problems with the ice markers usually about 18 months to about 3yrs after purchase. Sucks to pay $2k for fridge that should not do this, mine just started to act up at year 4 and why does the ice bin just breaks on the bottom? I will be contacting Samsung because it says it’s supposed to have a 10yr warranty. Many other family and folks we know have issues with their Samsung ice makers as well.

Don't know man.. I had my XBox One connected to the Denon receiver in my media room for a while and no issues. XBox got moved out to the garage where it was connected to a second Denon receiver without issue. That Denon was moved and a Yamaha was put in its place, again no issues. How old is your Denon receiver? Might be an incompatible HDMI version or something. I know when I went 4k I had to retire my old Denon 3808 CI receiver because it didn't do HDMI pass-though and I wanted that.

Well, the Denon video outputs took a shit on everything tonight, damn it sucks to listen through the TV speakers.

Had to do some dry wall patching at my mom's place. Don't care to explain how it happened, wasn't me is all ill say.

But anyway, pretty happy with the results so far. First time I've used paper tape for the joints, not 100% happy with it but for a rent house it'll be fine.

Gotta float it one more time then texture

that sucks... the bottom half of my house has wainscot wall panels for that same reason. So much easier to just cover up the body holes at least the lower half of them. The shotgun holes were fun to patch (I bought a crack house)

I did counter top depth fridges for my last two (Bosch and a GE Cafe). I like how they don't stick out but they do lack the volume the larger ones have. I still have the Bosch and its in the mudroom so that is the only good thing. We've always had 2 fridges but if I was to only have one, a single counter top depth might be a challenge due to storage.
Cabinet depth fridges are too small. My mom has one (only person in the house) and she hates how much less storage this fridge has. She thought getting a smaller fridge would be a benefit but she was wrong. That's why she now has an ugly fridge and a stand-up freezer in the garage.

Same exact thing with LG fridges. But you need to read the fine print of the warranty contract. My mom's LG warranty contract covers all parts & labor for up to one year. Then it covers all parts for up to 3 years. Customer pays for labor. Then after 3 years, it covers "certain" parts of the fridge. Customer pays labor.

Considering the size of modern fridges I do not understand why builders have not made necessary changes to cabinets to accommodate them properly. Other than most of them are cheap ass scum who are just looking to make the buck, declare bankruptcy to get away from debts/warranty issues, and then move on.

They have machines now that spit out cabinets to preset cabinet dimensions. I design/draw up cabinets and have my guys build them so I have an appreciation for it now but most of the people that do it have no idea what their doing or how cabinets should flow within your "working" space.

I think that covers it.

Luckily the two houses Ive lived in for 99% of my life were built with wide bottom cabinets and counters so getting a real sized fridge has never been an issue........except for the fact that my width is small and these days everyone puts massively wide fridges in so I did have a hard time finding one that would fit. Depth was never an issue.

I'm pretty stoked. Just got back the first full months' electric bill after changing my fridge, gas stove, gas water heater, gas HVAC....

full

I was thinking my bill would go up because the new efficient stuff has electric motors on it and they run allot, but I was completely wrong. Fridge is 40% of electric use so that must have made a HUGE dent. I'm using WAY less electricity and my gas bill is down to just about nothing. Much different than the $3-400 electric bills I got last winter using electric heat.

That is a pretty nice savings. Anything else you can adjust or tune to get a little more savings?

New windows or new wall insulation at this point...

Pretty much this. House was built in 64 so it's not that horrible or good...just meh. Any of the rooms Ive gutted down to the studs got new insulation and vapor barriers (about 10% of the house). My basement is not insulated so Ive heard I am losing up to 10% of my heating bill there. Also my attic has a substandard amount of insulation in it so that's bad. Over the years Ive eliminated multiple doors, changed out multiple doors, and windows. I have 1 more door to remove (two windows going in it's place) and then 5 more windows to swap out. I'm slowly making my way around the house. Plan was to do them this winter but HVAC took up that budget - I was hoping to just put a band aid on it vs replace it. If I got real crazy I'd bet I could cut my current use down another 20%.

If plans changed and I was here for the long haul I'd add solar once the house was all updated. I can't add much due to tree coverage, but I could get about 400sqft up on the roof. If I did all that I'd be getting credits some months.
