FUCK metal doors. Finally got around to putting a dog door in the back yard and that was miserable. I should have taken it off the hinges and used a grinder. Also installed a Ring door bell and have a few people coming by this week to get quoted on replacing the front door and some windows. Excuse the terrible looking front yard. It's on the short list.

So, does anyone have ant experience with some sort of retractable gate that would go across the garage door opening? Something I can put across the garage entry and keep the dogs in the garage (and in the backyard). Right now my newest pup LOVES to be in the garage.. and I'm super cool with it. But as it warms up I want the garage door open but don't want him deciding he wants to go for a roam around the hood. Over time I'm sure I can train him but since he is still young I'd just like a gate. Anyone seen anything? Don't need the full floor to ceiling things to keep bugs out (but that would be nice) I was hoping something existed that mounted to one side and them you pulled it across to attach to other side. I've got some gears in my head thinking about making one but figured I would ask first.

I see folks with big motorhomes at campgrounds use the metal panels that lock together to make small yards for dogs, that might work, along with a 5 mile electric fence charger
I know a person that uses a retractable fence type mesh for their door to the backyard. I am not sure if it would go over 3' open though; but it might be worth finding. I will text them and see if they remember where they got it.

I am thinking of some 3' tall plastic fencing rolled around a piece of PCV that is attached at one end to a retractable hose reel mechanism... the other side is fitted with a piece of flat plate that connects to some hooks of some sort. Pull it across... attach... when done retract and secure.
That is pretty close to what they have; but it is pretty slick and self contained.

You're over thinking the dog in the garage situation. Put a ring/hook into a stud in one of the walls and get a long rope. That way it acts like a leash and he can actually go out into the yard if he wants to pee on something. Sure, the leash will get wrapped around a few things in the beginning, but he will learn.
So when we bought the new house, we had to sign an agreement that we wouldn't complain about "normal construction noises during reasonable hours." A very generic and loosely interpret-able way of saying that we won't complain. I don't mind the hammer and nail gun noises, but the Mexican tuba all day is a little ridiculous.

Made probably the best improvement today. Finally invested in a nice mattress. Tired of going through $500 mattresses every couple of years. Ordered an Intellibed Twilight with head and foot adjustable base. It cost a small fortune but has a 20 year warranty and they had some good discounts on it. Gets delivered Saturday.

Just got another rebate in the mail. This ones $250 for going efficient with my water heater from the state's clean energy program. Add that to the last rebate I got and my water heater was almost free/paid for in year 1. Glad I chose this route vs waiting for 30+ years for a tankless to pay for itself. By the end of winter if I paid more than $500 for heat and hot water I'll be amazed. Think I'm at around $300 right now. Wood would of cost me more....... Pellets would of cost more..... Gotta love cheap natural gas prices

Rebates are subsidies; but you would be a bigger fool if you ignored them.

I like never having taken any handouts or gubment help, but alas a hypocrite I am. I guess I always have been - thinking about my county college education had to be subsidized with tax $$.
I'm sure being a single white landowner making good money and never taking unemployment and never stiffing anyone with a medical bill Ive paid my fair share anyway
I look at it two ways - I do not support or like government subsidies but I would be a fool to impose extra costs on myself in my own self rightiousness.
