We have the big 2.5" 50k ftlb one named Bertha and we have Baby Bertha which is a "measly" 1.5" drive and something like 10-15k ftlb.
Crazy! I'd like to know the Workers Comp issues that have been caused by those!!! :)

Ok, garage gurus....I need a new hydraulic floor jack.

I had a Michelin (branded) jack that was rated at 3.5 tons with a lifting range of 5.5" to 22". I sold it on Craigslist for $25 since it leaked oil and I couldn't find a gasket replacement/rebuild kit for it. It worked fine, but I figured it was time for a new one since I owned that one for about 15 years.

I bought that one when I was into lowered cars. I was pleased when it would still get the Tacoma off the ground...even after the lift. There were times that I had it extended to the max, so I don't want a lifting height of under 22". I would like a daily driver eventually, so I like the idea of low profile. Don't want to spend a fortune either.

I think I've narrowed it down to this Pro-Lift Premium https://www.amazon.com/Pro-Lift-G-7...keywords_two_browse-bin:7019256011|7019257011 based on specs and cost. Seems to be very similar to the one I just sold.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I've been using the harbor fright low profile jack for 2 years. You can get them on sale for $80 just check their circulars. Best thing is if it breaks just bring it back and they give you a new one.

2 ton Low Profile/Long Reach Steel Heavy Duty Floor Jack with Rapid Pump®

Have you had one break?

The harbor fright 3 ton is also on sale, doesn't lift as high but works ok. I believe I have the 3 ton but I don't remember. I don't use the jack as much anymore since I got the 2 post lift so it mostly sits and collects dust lol
3 ton Low Profile Steel Heavy Duty Floor Jack with Rapid Pump®

I definitely think I will stick with 3 ton or stronger. They are on sale for $80 right now. I could almost buy two for the price of the one that I was looking at yesterday...or three for the price of the one that Sean suggested.

I have two Sunex ones, a 3 ton and a 2 ton. Both are all aluminum and both have the quick pump tech. I really like both of them. For the truck I'd get the 3 ton. http://a.co/eTEUGFi

Much better price... 3 Ton Aluminum Service Jack with Rapid Rise

The cost doesn't scare me off, but I need to justify the extra $100. Any benefits aside from the weight reduction of aluminum?

The 2 post lift or the Pro Eagle?

I'd like to have both...

Back on topic. The HF and Sunex jacks only go up to about 19" for max lift height. On the old jack (22" lift height) I could get both front and back wheels off the ground by lifting in the middle of the frame. It would be darn near max height, but made tire rotations a lot quicker.

I've been using a harbor freight one for years and it's just starting to go on it's way out now.

I don't trust Harbor Freight with anything that can kill me. A failing jack qualifies.

I'm never underneath it when I'm jacking it up lol I never get underneath the truck until it's on stands.

A friend has the HF 2 ton version and it seems fine.. but he doesn't use it that often.

My mom got me the HF 3 ton steel jack many moons ago and Ive never had an issue. It's stored in my shed so it sees temps from 5* - 120*. It makes it under my Subaru's front splitter but barley.

I get what Silverback is saying, but I don't trust my life to any jack irregardless of brand + I'm too cheap to spend a good deal of dough on a great jack. I just bought "OK" jack stands lol

Yeah, I never get under mine without stands either. But I'll spend a little more to have that peace of mind.

I usually ask myself "what's the worst that could happen" and that determines the outcome. I have a lot of tools from HF that I absolutely love. It's hard to beat some of their deals. On the other hand, a lot of their stuff just isn't up to par.

I usually put the jack stands under just in case the jack fails...that way the vehicle doesn't crush me. However, it is normally supported by just the jack.

Good to know on the tool chests. Those are on the to-do list as well at some point. I'm almost to the point of building a workbench in the new garage and hadn't thought about making it custom height to roll the tool chest under. Something else to think about!

I'm between purchasing one for the Texas house and stealing my late step-grandpa's old Craftsman. I'm guessing it was purchased in the 80s or 90s and would come with a LOT of tools that I have never seen elsewhere :). Only problem is transporting it back from Florida.
