I have been using one of the HF 3 tom jacks for a year now. It has held up pretty well and had had more use than I wish it got recently with all my front end work. I would buy it again.

Have you had one break?

I definitely think I will stick with 3 ton or stronger. They are on sale for $80 right now. I could almost buy two for the price of the one that I was looking at yesterday...or three for the price of the one that Sean suggested.

The cost doesn't scare me off, but I need to justify the extra $100. Any benefits aside from the weight reduction of aluminum?

The 2 post lift or the Pro Eagle?

I'd like to have both...

Back on topic. The HF and Sunex jacks only go up to about 19" for max lift height. On the old jack (22" lift height) I could get both front and back wheels off the ground by lifting in the middle of the frame. It would be darn near max height, but made tire rotations a lot quicker.

I have not had one break no, but HF return policy is great you just bring it in and go get a new one they usually don't even ask questions lol

Oh and as for steel jack vs. aluminum. I'll never buy another steel jack if I can help it. Aluminum is SOOO nice to move around. My old 3.5 ton steel jack weighted about 110 lbs.. aluminum jack is half that. I can load it into the bed of the truck without a fork truck. :)

Placed an order for a 80 gallon Campell Hausfeld air compressor from Lowe's. Went with the two stage version for a little more money. Hopefully this air compressor will last me until I die lol

Now I'll need to run the 220V wiring and buy new breakers for my panel box for the garage.

Just remember to store your jacks in the OPEN position. The seals will last longer.

Really? Interesting...I've never heard that before. I always stored mine in the closed position. Does that just release pressure, or what?

Keeps the seal from being squeezed and constantly squeezed, so when you do use it the pressure holds and doesn't leak down on you.

I usually ask myself "what's the worst that could happen" and that determines the outcome. I have a lot of tools from HF that I absolutely love. It's hard to beat some of their deals. On the other hand, a lot of their stuff just isn't up to par.

I usually put the jack stands under just in case the jack fails...that way the vehicle doesn't crush me. However, it is normally supported by just the jack.

I'd recommend you start putting the load on the jack stands. Your wife and kids will thank me should your jack ever fail. Ive dropped my fair share of trucks and cars doing stupied shit and Ive been down that road with poor results.

I think aluminum every time I pick up my 3 ton and walk it from my shed to under the tree the Tacoma is parked or where I service my Subaru in my backyard. Working in dirt/grass sucks even more when carrying a heavy ass jack.

depends on the hydraulic system the jack uses HYJACKS.COM/JACKS BASICS PAGE/H7.HTM

My brother used to punch me anytime I didn't leave a jack open. After rebuilding a few I realized why. Designs may have changed since the 1800s but that is when I learned about it. :)
