Langmuir Systems | CrossFire CNC Plasma Tables

There are other threads with some review but the one I was looking at on pirate they seem to have good things to say
Crossfire CNC plasma? $1000 - Pirate4x4.Com : 4x4 and Off-Road Forum

I get that a 2x2 table without torch height control will have its limitations and challenges, but to get a setup out of the box for $1500 compared to others that is 5-7k seems worthwhile to me. I might use it once a month and for that I can replace consumables sooner and deal with cleaning a little dross. At some point in the future I could always upgrade but It would be nice to learn on a system that won't break the bank. I also like the fact I can use my current torch setup on my powermax and not have to switch to a machine torch.

Makes me wish I had went with the Hypertherm 40 vs. the 30 I got. I believe the 40 is compatible with a table and the 30 is not.

So my pneumatic impact is leaking air and feels weak.

I guess the next step is to see about taking it apart and cleaning.

I have a couple impacts that are close to 20yrs old, old aviation mechanic told me back in 95 to use the military small arms oil, CLP with Teflon in my impacts or any air tool, I never had a problem and my compressors do not have a drier/Oiler.

I have a thing of air tool oil that I use. I'll consider switching when it runs out, but for now...still gotta figure out what to do with my current one.

I'll say, once I got my first Milwaukee 18v 1/2" impact I never used an air powered one again. If you don't have one, I highly recommend one. Not the cheapest, but oh so powerful and convenient.

Agreed. I had a small air impact and end up borrowing my f-in-law's electric DeWalt years ago. I think he gave up expecting to get it back.

I don’t mind using the 1/2 air impact, other than wheels, I really use the smaller/micro 3/8 air ratchet most of the time there is no substitute for the size and power.

Yes I would love a M18 impact, but I’m too cheap and dragging an air hose around is not that big of deal.

The only air tools I use are air hammer/air chisel, die grinder, small cut off, etc. No impact stuff. I have a small 3/8th Milwaukee impact that also works awesome. plus Milwaukee just released a new version that is super compact. Maybe Santa will bring me one.

I've heard VERY good things about this impact. Not your typical harbor freight tool. AvE had good things to say about it. He has a BOLTR of it

1/2 in. Ultra Compact Xtreme Torque Stubby Air Impact Wrench

I have also heard good reviews on this, but for $10 more you can get an IR 35MAX, I have the IR stubby impact and love it for smaller jobs. I guess if you get a 20% off coupon that knocks the price down below $100

Rebuild kits are available for some brands and sounds like you'll need one if it is leaking. Hopefully it's something stupied like a leak at the exterior connection you can fix without cracking it open. Spray it down with some glass cleaner or soapy water and look for bubbles. Short of that it's really brand specific. If you do not filter the air youll keep blowing up tools if you are forcing contaminants into them (water/rust/dust/etc.). They sure don;t make things like they used to but 13 years ago I used a IR that worked for me for 7 years of heavy commercial use and never had any issues. I kept good care of it and never had to crack it open. Just oiled it and cleaned the filter in the line.

I can feel where the air is coming out. There are two holes in the handle near the air inlet. It comes out through there and the exhaust port pretty steadily. Watching some youtube videos, it looks like I just need to take apart and clean it really well and re-oil everything.

if that's all it needs that's great, but I'd think a seal is shot/cracked/no good if it's leaking.

Hate to say it but air tools are on their death bed. The new 12V Milwaukee line of electric ratchets has helped to seal that coffin IMHO. They are a ton of power in a tiny platform, lighter weight and quieter. In a few more years, I'm sure the electric tools will be even better than what we have now.

Edit: I played with the Milwaukee set at Home Depot last weekend and would've walked out of there with a 1/4" ratchet had I not bought a suppressor this month already :)

You forgot to mention that you do not need a decent sized air compressor and enough air hose to get where you need the tools. The additional requirement costs alone are why I never bought the large air tools. I have a small air compressor and really do not see me needing anything larger than a 20 gallon compressor.

Plasma cutter? ;) But yeah it's expensive and the air hoses are annoying.

I tell you what though, it is nice not to have a compressor kick on all the time. The other weekend, I used the hell outta my compressor doing various stuff around the garage and my wife made a comment that it only kicked on a couple of times opposed to my little portable 10 gallon air compressor that used to constantly run all day. At times I do wish I had gotten a 60 gallon air compressor (mainly when I'll have to move it in the future) and other times I'm happy I spent the extra money on the 80 gallon.

For personal use and construction I can see air tools dying off - for commercial manufacturing heck no.

I need to go get our tanks filled now for our nail guns. I started keeping tanks in house vs carrying out compressors or electric nail guns. Only issue is no welding supply stores fill them - I need to go to a paintball field to get them filled. We tried the electric and Passload nailers and they all suck compared to a good ol air nailer (for what we do).

My guys destroyed 2 paslodes, 2 makita electric, and 1 dewalt electric and the whole time our good ol IR air nailer has worked flawlessly.

I got the guys this set up for small jobs: Pneumatic CO2 Regulator Kit with 20 oz tank

@Anathollo my plasma cutter has a built in compressor. One of the reasons I bought this one. It is slightly smaller than preferred but much more usable in a large variety of situations.

Air tools not going anywhere, lol.
Compared to electric tools, air-powered tool versions are lighter and smaller, and they pack the same or higher amount of torque.
If I was operating a die grinder, cut off or disc sander for a couple hours a day, air tools ftw.
And I have used die grinder for hours for several days during the heat of the summer and I have caught myself positioning the tool while grinding to receive the air exhaust from the tool to cool off many times.

The cost of sourcing materials for lithium will only increase over time.
