Going to be tough playing shower twister in that shower.

First thing my buddy said was that it was small. I reminded him when he and his wife refused to buy the two framed designs I pushed for that they promised me to never let their kids in it and they never 'messed around' in it. I bet week one moms got the baby or both babies in there :BangHead::bash:

I hate framless showers. They are dangerous and they leak, but they look cool so screw safety and what the pro says....

I have an Alumax model 650fully framed slider that's powder-coated white with rain glass in it. It's been installed for 15 years, never leaked, is totally safe, and if I slip in the shower I have something that won't pull down on top of me should I need to stabilize myself.

Not mine but same model I have w/clear glass and a std color. Pretty much bomb proof

My new Milfawkee 1/2" hammer drill got so hot drilling through granite, natural river stone, and ceramic that I had to put it down so my hands didn't burn. I was amazed it kept going and I was the limit. Prob not the way to break her in properly, but it is what it is and she got her done quick. Ive only used one battery in weeks and I never even fully charged it so I''m pretty happy so far.

This weekends work after camping - so glad my measurements and scribe work was spot on. Clips and everything needs final adjustment before caulk, but I still have a clip that's on back order and holding up the whole job from being finished.

Oh and Oldcastle forgot my hole that goes to a clip in the wall so the return lite on the knee wall will be replaced eventually. This is the job from hell. Anything and everything that can go bad has....except for my measurements and layout lol
Had my guys put in a small frameless setup at my house. Would have went a lot smoother had Old Castle not made one of my panels wrong TWICE.

Third times a charm right?

Oldcastle has screwed me for the past month +. Think I'm on batch #4.

I know the CNC programer - he worked there when I was running a CNC back in the day. I sent him my DWG so he didn't even need to redraw it. How he forgot to program a hole then the fab guys missed it on the paperwork, then the inspector on the shower door shrink wrap light table missed it just blows my mind, especially since I did that exact same job. Must have total morons running their CNC's now or they are totally automated. The programmer would of had to literally delete one of the holes then the next three stations had blinders on.

It's not missing the relief notch - it's missing the dang hole and relief notch....

Doesn't help you but GGI has been good to me with heavy fab glass.

Apparently Oldcastle and CRL are going through some restructuring. Lord knows CRL needs it. Pretty sure Oldcastle is just now realizing they paid WAY too much for CRL so they are hacking entire limbs off instead of giving them some antibiotics a year ago lol

Good to know. Thanks!

My old house, I completely gutted this bathroom, new wiring, and many new studs etc., and remolded it myself, I only hired a plumber to replace the drain and reroute the water line, and a friend to help with tile so he could make cuts for me as I placed it, I think a really good shower will have the shower head on the opposite side of the valve/handle
....(99% of all showers suck because the handle is directly below the shower head)

My master shower has the faucet handle on the opposite side as the shower head. It was weird at first but I love it now.

Looks like you have an Alumax 791 model lol

My first real job was with them from 18-25yo fabricating shower doors for custom applications.

Here is your manual if I am right Alumax 791 - Manual

I never get involved in the plumbing (union trades and all that) but I do factor in the shower head to how I lay out the doors so they leak as little as possible. For sliders it is very important.

When I redid my master I put the head over the faucet but I can also grab and turn it on w/o getting wet. Thats #1 in my book. if you can't warm up the water from outside it's a poor design IMHO. Strike that #1 is freeze proofness lol I have a exterior wall and I'd much rather run them together on the inside than have plumbing on an outside wall. We saw 5* temps last winter.

Great timing on this topic. I am trying to convince myself my master bathroom shower can wait a while in a remodel. It was a supposed to be a shower only but a friend of my in-law's gifted us a garden tub with jets after we had already framed it in. So we ended up having a weirdly setup tub/shower in the master for 10 years now. I am beyond tired of it.

But I am too cheap to spend anything on it but that is coming to a stop.

We have a few carpenters and glaziers in here so feel free to ask away. Used to have a plumber but he flushed himself away for motorcycle forums o_O

Only product name Ill drop for bathroom remodels is Schluter and Alumax (both top of the line for what they are). Not cheap but neither is replacing a bathroom every 5-10 years because of rot issues. schluter.com | Homepage

Those dang motorcycle forums; there are only a few of those I still check from time to time. Mainly because they are expensive.

I will get a pic of my master bath disaster and post it tonight. Really I think I could get away with ripping out the tub, adding a piece of glass wall, a glass door, a bench, and re doing the tile. It was a decent shower on paper but it never got a chance to be a shower with the dang garden tub. The goal is to be out of this house in a few years so I really do not want to go big money with it.

If you do the work, and put decent materials into it, it still can be a low cost project, and having a nice master bath/shower is important for a sale of a home. Women think bathrooms, laundry and Kitchens, men think about the garages, living room size and yard.

Yeah - it is a bit of a step to get into and out of. I am really looking forward to having a basic step in shower. I would like to put in an upgraded shower head though. My sammich maker says she wants one of those rain heads that is directly above. Personally I do not care.

Custom pans drive up the cost and labor significantly IMHO. I opted for a premade fiberglass impregnated plastic shower pan with seats in the front and back then tiled the walls myself after putting down cement board and Schluter's water sealing system...think it's Ditra - can't remember it was so long ago.

It's not "baller" status but will NEVER ever leak.

Similar to this but 2' longer and I tiled my walls (shown is a 48" and Ive got a 72")

Also if you do not want to tile - single slabs of glass/marble/man made countertop materials are readily available. Hotels use them for ease of cleaning and to cut down on maintenance and leaking. (2) joints in the corner that are overlapped with the slab is much less likely to leak than 1,000 grout joints. Install is also 100x faster - just gotta measure perfectly

That's Mr Asshole to you
I had a cultured marble shower in my last house. Cleaning was super easy and no worry about leaks. I would do a shower like that again due to the low maintenance
