Most of the ones I've looked at are showing that they are cast at around 30k psi.

For instance, the $229 Wilton says "Heavy-duty 30,000 PSI iron casting built for rugged use and extended life." Whereas this $52 Dewalt says "this vise is constructed from 30,000 psi cast iron."

This one on Amazon says 60k PSI and is under $100: https://www.amazon.com/Forward-DT08...jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

Here's a Wilton for $51 with a lifetime warranty...https://www.amazon.com/Wilton-11104...ywords=heavy+duty+vise&qid=1580832758&sr=8-19 ...but also says that the power source is "corded electric" so I'm not sure how much I trust that description...

Found it. Forged Bench Vise

I'd get the 5" for that price. Seems to be a great value.

I like the guy at fireball tools and I get the feeling he would stand behind his products, but I wonder why he didn't test that vice when he did his last round of testing? Maybe he just started selling them?

for a second I thought that was one of the ones he tested but at the 16:40 mark it's a overseas vice thats thew same color as the ones he sells

I'm lurking because a vice has been on my shopping list as well

So by that, I should avoid a swivel base, which is a feature that I'd like to have. After watching that, it doesn't seem like any vise is "good enough."

Since my income doesn't depend on it, I'm leaning toward just going to pick one up at Home Depot or maybe getting that Fireball that Sean posted.

“good enough” damn are you forging metal?running a machine shop? industrial fabrication? No.

I swear, just buy a decent vise, it will hold up to your occasional automotive and household activities.

I'd lean the way of fireball once I figured otu what vice that was and where he was sourcing it from. Last thing I would want to do is buy some sort of custom one off I could never buy parts for should anythng ever happen to it - but I'm going for buy once and cry once with no budget. Also why I'm not in a rush to get one. Made it 40 years through life w/o one - can wait a little longer + I have many at work I can use lol

Just picked up the ICON 1/2" Torque Wrench from Harbor Freight while they're having 20% off ICON stuff. This thing is nice! Much, much better feeling than my old Plastic handled Craftsman. Ha sa much more positive lockup on the adjustment, the knurling on the handle is super aggressive, to the point that gloves will probably be necessary if tightening more than a few nuts, and theres not as much backlash as the old Craftsman. I'm not sure how it compares to others as I've only ever had the Craftsman. But for me, the <$100 spent on this thing so far seems like a very solid investment. The icon ratchets felt just as awesome as well. They were much nicer than my GearWrench ratchets. I'll probably pick up some of the cushion grip ones as well before the 20% off sale ends at the end of the month.

I didn't think the ratchets felt that good at all. My 120 tooth GearWrench feel much nicer. Maybe the 84 tooth ones don't feel as nice??

Maybe that's it. Mine are the 84 tooth flex heads. They just have a ton of backlash in them. One thing I like about the GW over the ICON is that they have detents for the flex head to help lock it in at certain positions. Which I guess could be bad or good depending on the situation.

That sounds nice - mine are loosy goosey and it's very annoying for the amount of $$$ paid

Guy spent some coin on the HF Icon tools. Not really a good review, but shows what they have.
