I was too but you could do without a tank with these.. all you need is a water source. You could install a filter inline with your intake line.. drive up to a pond or lake or something.. and get reasonably clean water.
The zodi's look nice.. but I want to pack less not more.

I'm looking at these.... http://www.helton.com.au/

I don't like to go more than a day or so without a shower... I was thinking about installing a water tank under the bed where the spare tire would go then hooking up one of these heat exchangers.

What do you think?
Man, I've been thinking about the best way to do OBW and right now my plan is to just put some Air hose adapters on some plastic water containers so I can pump in about 5-10psi. Then modify the spout so it pulls from the bottom of the container. It will make cleaning/ refilling WAY easier.

That's right.. You have the onboard air setup.. you could easily pressurize a tank of water. Any consideration about heating it?

Frack me..
Those are slick. I was thinking about a Zodi portable unit.
Not a fan of the Zodi... I have a battery powered flash heater.. it's for washing horses, works AWESOME! Fittings need to be changed for a different propane tank.

Camping world, just get a small plastic tank (5gallon or so) and a small 12v water pump.. I have a 20 gallon, and pump in the Camper if you want to try it out first.. you are welcome to. it works great!

the only sucky thing I can think of with yours Jason is you have to do it when the truck is hot.. so on a cold day/morning.. it will take forever for the vehicle to heat up. otherwise, I love the idea!

I had thought about trying to heat it, but I don't really care enough to mess with it. While we were in CO, I took a bath in the river that was probably 40*.

I have the most awesome out door shower.. only problem is it requires a spigit with water pressure. 130$ from Camping world, requires 2 D-call batteries, propane tank, and privy

Just FYI, the Winter 2008 edition of Overland Journal has a great article on building an OBW system. They use the vehicle mounted heat exchanger. I tried to snap a picture from one of the pages but it came out like shit.

What you can't really see if that he has two tanks, and the option for a external input (city water for example), it then goes to a pump, and then a t fitting to allow unfiltered cold water. Then to another t fitting, one side goes to a filter and then out to a tap. The other side of the t goes to the heat exchanger and then out for unfiltered hot water. Its very nice.

But I think, IMO, that for what I would use it for... a portable heater would be fine. I was thinking about the one Sam was talking about and my only concern for it is durability. It seems like its more designed for an RV and not meant to be bounced around in the back of a 4WD. But I do like the fact that you just run a hose to it and presto.. instant shower. I thought that Overland Journal did a review of several portable showers but I can't find the review... and I have every issue. Hmm.. must be going crazy.

I had a couple thoughts on a water source. While a big 25 gallon tank would be cool, its also a lot of weight.. and its big and all in one place. I have 3 5 gallon jerry cans. They have two outputs on them, one as a pressure relief and one for the water to come out. I wonder if a person could use the pressure relief as a air pressurization line, then drop a long "straw" into the other output and have that feed a hose. This could then be fed to anything, a spigot, a water heater.. whatever. Of course a 12volt pump would/could serve the same purpose, I just think you could use the compressed water as almost a pressure washer if need be. :)

The jerry can top.. the vent fitting comes out, but I didn't want to pull it.

This Netflix thing is pretty sweet. Just signed up and already watching through my PS3 and Xbox.

Yeah we do that through my 360 (or the Wii) and through the LG BluRay in a box theater setup in the bedroom. On the XBox its cool because you can choose from just about any movie they offer. But on the Wii and LG system the movie has to be in your queue or you can't download it. Kinda sucks because you have to them go log on, put some movies in your instant queue and then go back and select them. But either way the quality is awesome.

Classic Sean. I love it.

I really need to just delete my account and all my shit over there... they should change the name to CustomTacoWorld... not that there is anything wrong with a nice clean Taco... I prefer a clean shaven taco.... uhh I mean a clean and waxed Taco.. but the guys that post shit like that make me want to kick a kitten. Its the total douche bag package. "Hey look at me.. I put this 6" lift and then I waxed and Armor All'd my rig to go take some pussy picks at this rain water run off near the Gap where I work."
