What have you done to your ride lately?

The McGard's are nice! They have a built-in "washer" in the tip so they don't gouge your rims.

"Tough nuts"... lol... thats some good marketing. Their website and description of their manufactoring looks on point.

So I got some progress done on Rack 2.0 today. I had a late start since I had to pick up some new base material because I ordered the wrong stuff last time. At the end of today I have both side bases fitted and bolted down, the angle of the roof slope figured out, the legs for the passenger side cut and tacked on. The last thing I did was make room for the 4R in my garage so I could work on it tomorrow. We are expecting thunderstorms and I do not feel like working outside in the rain.

Here is a crappy pic of the uprights after tacking them on. Tomorrow should see the leveling cut of the uprights, the driver side getting done the same way, and then the angle top rails getting tacked on. Then it should all get welded, cleaned, and painted. Hopefully it will all be done before work Monday morning.

Also working on a few more pieces to really dress the roof rack up.

Today saw a few mistakes but more progress. Toyota did not make a single flat or square surface to measure from to build the roof rack. The insult to injury is that the roof slopes down toward the front. I have 1.25" clearance in back and 2" in front. Once it finishes cooling I am going to pull it off and start welding it up a little. Then will be the inserts and finish welds. I am debating taking the rack to a friend's house and using his mill to cut the slats.

Didn't feel like wiring today so I started welding up a better way to prevent my fuel cans from walking away. I'll get some pics later.

are you welding on galvanized metal? Watch out for those fumes. Shit can mess you up. Otherwise, look nice and tight.

Hell no. I learned the hard way before about that. All this material is new off the shelf cold or hot rolled steel.

Wait till you finish redoing all the wiring you are doing now. Then order the NSA setup and redo all the wiring - again. You could always just order the NSA now and do the wiring once.

The NSA is for rewiring the back half of the truck. The SPOD is for the front half... I like having a switch I can put a hand on but the NSA is perfect for the bed area. I need to finish the front half first.

Finally ordered new bolts to mount my skids up... Bud Built sells a set of stainless bolts made for the 5 piece setup so that should do it. Get them mounted back up and that will be one less thing to worry about. I guess I'll change t-case fluid before I do so though.

I learn as I go
I've got a skid plate bolt that sheared off at the head.. I've tried screw extractors and drilling all the way through the bolt and I can't do anything to get it out.
Any recommendations? Not even sure if I can weld a nut to the bolt cause I don't think there's enough sticking out. I'm tired of hearing the rattle of my skid plate.

I see all you guys talking about wiring.. I hate wiring. I'm not good at it. I make it work, but it don't look pretty.
I need to wire up some lights for my bed, was thinking about an in cab switch, in bed switch, or both. But one, I'm out of switch blanks, and two, not sure exactly how to wire two switches to control the same lights. I'm sure I can find a diagram to follow, but I thought I'd ask in here.

Can you drill it and use an EzOut? Which bolt is it?
