Ordered some FatMat sound deadener for the 4Runner doors. I am going to start with doors and rear hatch. Later will do the floor and interior sides.

good choice. doors are the best bang for your buck IMHO. Not only do they deaden the noise just the overall "feel"/perception when you hear a clunk vs clink when closing my doors was satisfying to me. Like closing a tin can vs closing a safe door

Oh I did that the first time the first bolt stripped. I can run the bolt in all the way by hand until the head bottoms out against the tensioner, then as soon as I put any torque on it with a wrench it strips.

I know you said it's the same, but did you compare the bolt lengths? The head bottoming out has me wondering, but thats what would happen with bad threads....so I'm clueless

Exactly the same bolt. I don’t think the bolt is bottoming out, I read somewhere that the supplied bolt used to be 135mm but the new bolt that comes in the kit is 130mm. Supposedly people were having issues with the threads bottoming out before the bolt head on the longer bolts.

Good to know! Thanks. I never bothered to research it after I read about it briefly in the forums.

In this article they talk about the two different motors at the end. The R2.8 has a 90 day warranty.

there is an older sas Jeep Liberty on base that has that diesel motor, it’s not a bad looking rig.

that sucks. only thing I can think of is to try and run a tap down it to clean the threads up/out, but thats still not 100% since they are that bad

Chasing threads is ALWAYS a good thing to do with one exception - Interference lock nuts.

I had a rear leaking axle hub seal on the passenger side for a few months, finally took the time to replace it. I did both sides while I was at it to just check the bearings. Good thing I did, because both sides were missing the slinger ring which I put new ones in. Pretty easy job, much easier working on a full floater!

Also replaced my fuel filler neck which had a pinhole in it and was rustier than hell. I guess the PO replaced the bed and was too lazy to replace the filler neck. Also replaced the rubber filler hose with new marine fuel hose since the old hose was kind of rusty and worn out after 18 years exposed to diesel fuel and the elements.

and just in case anyone was wondering, the truck was on the lift, not supported by the jack. Not that you guys would bitch about that but too many folks I know go ape shit about safety. I used the jack to tilt the axle so the gear oil wouldn't ooze out.

Got the ATF drained and pulled the transmission pan and filter pulled last night. I'll pull the valve body today and take it to work with me this weekend for the shift kit install.

Take lots of pics. There are a handful of check balls in the valve body. When you split it open one or two are likely to stick to the top half - just keep an eye out.

This is by far the messiest job I've ever done on a rig. My garage looks like a murder scene and I've taken at least 3 ATF showers. The good news is ATF is a hell of a lot easier to clean up than gear oil. I got the Valve body removed today. Taking it and the pan to work tonight to clean up and start swapping out the springs and stuff with the new ones. Hopefully things keep going smoothly. Trying to take lots of pictures and label everything that's coming apart.
