Well the new Powerstroke HO has a water cooled turbo so I imagine they had the same tech on the older EcoBoosts.
Water cooled turbo. Can leak past the seals and end up inside the turbo. Can then either burn out the exhaust or get in the oil and go back to the oil pan from my understanding. However, I don't think this is my problem after all. I spent about an hour this morning crawling all over/under the engine bay looking for any signs of a leak. The truck hadn't ran since yesterday afternoon but I didn't see any staining around fittings, old coolant pooled up on skidplates, etc. I drove to OReilly to pick up a gallon of coolant and while I was there I grabbed a new radiator cap. When I popped the hood to check the PSI of the cap (they had 16psi and 21psi options), I could smell coolant. So I got home, let it cool a bit and topped off the coolant and installed the new cap. Started it and let it run for about 15 minutes while I changed some burnt out Christmas bulbs. Went back and there was steam coming from the fitting on the bottom of the coolant reservoir. Apparently this is a common failure point. The parts to fix it are about $50 I believe so I'll try that. If that doesn't fix the problem, I'll go from there. I think the reason I never saw it before is that it sits on top of the radiator and if the electric fans are running, you obviously can't see the steam because the fans are blowing it away.ignorant question, but how does antifreeze get into the turbo? I'm pretty sure the turbos have an oil line, but other than that it is just the intake and exhaust ports, right?
Well I'll be....looks to be a thing.
Good luck finding an 8 year old.
Just bought one for my son, picking it up Saturday. 2014 F150 extended cab XLT 3.7 (non-turbo) V6 88k miles denim blue.

Looks like this fitting and the fitting that connects the hoses to the turbos themselves are common failure points from what I've read.Interesting, didn't know that this was issue on these trucks, and of course I really have looked into it either.
Hopefully, it's $50 cost that resolves the issue.
That issue isn't just on the eco boosts, some of the other 150/250 have it too.Water cooled turbo. Can leak past the seals and end up inside the turbo. Thanks. Very clean Carfax with dealership done services. I found it on Carvana so it cost a bit more then it should, but CL and FB marketplace are ridiculous and the used car lots are no better.Nice find on low mileage for that year.

Yeah from what I've read they need $ after buying out another dealerMaybe Carvana will start dumping inventory soon...

I've read that too, but read more positive stuff. I sold them my F250 and they cut me another check because they didn't pay it off before my next payment hit. Ended up giving me about $600 more then they should haveI have heard some bad stories about folks buying from them and not receiving titles?
I haven't looked at them or considered them yet.

Did I miss how you ended up with a 4Runner? Ditch the LX?Oil & filter and new metal housing@114,336
Rear diff oil(1/16" of metal mesh on magnet, fluid was probably original, but it was still transparent.
