What have you done to your ride lately?

Well Chevrolet was pinching pennies and every bulb in this thing is a shitty incandescent bulb. So I replaced the interior bulbs first with this Lasfit brand and I was pretty impressed. So I picked up all the bulbs to do the rest of the truck from the same brand. Only ones I did not replace are the side marker lights in the headlight housing and the bulb that is in the projector housing. Maybe someday.. the side marker lights are buried in there... not exactly sure how to even get to them. But I am pretty impressed with this brand. Plenty bright now... and my backup lights actually allow me to see something now.

Did the rear diff breather relocation today. Put it up behind the rear tail light.

Finally scheduled my 4Runner for a 90k mile service for the timing belt & water pump. I am also having the radiator and valve cover gaskets replaced at the same time. I probably need them to do the spark plugs while they have it.

Rolled 80k on the BabyMax on the way to work this morning. On week 3 of a 2 week outage at work. Looks like one more week (thanks "engineers") and then I'll have some time off to get the 80k service taken care of. Also trying to buy my MIL's 2nd gen Tacoma. So if that happens the Chevy will probably be gone. I like the truck but the stories I hear of them after 100k are starting to worry me a bit. Would rather get out of it now while I have enough positive equity to pay cash for the Tacoma without getting in the savings.

Oil change and brake fluid flush on the Tacoma. Slight improvement on the brake pedal feel but still not loving it. I'm going to mess with the adjustments on the proportioning valve bracket thing and see if I can make it better.

My MIL finally agreed last night to sell me her 2014 Tacoma Prerunner. She bought it from her brother a year and a half ago and hasn't done anything with it. She's put maybe 200 miles on it since then. Getting it for next to nothing. Needs a battery and a couple little creature comforts but it has new tires and is overall clean and low miles. Should make a nice little truck. Probably going to sell the Chevy to free up the payment and just rock the Tacoma for a while until I get bored of it.

The truck I bought essentially sight unseen. I had seen it before but didn't really know anything about it. It's actually a 2012 (not 2014 like I originally thought) V6 PreRunner with 137k. Going to pick it up Saturday after I buy a new battery for it. Been sitting for most of the last year and a half so I'm sure there will be a few small things I find that it needs but overall it seems solid. Big folder full of records. Pretty new Michelin Defender tires. Will take it to my detailer next week to get it all back up to par.

Picked up the Tacoma today. My MIL put 99 miles on it since she bought it in May of last year. Picked up a new battery on the way over and it cranked right up and I drove it about 30 miles. Engine runs nice and smooth. It's not perfect but cruises pretty well at 75. Feels like it might need some tie rods. Also the brakes are super reactive but the pedal feel is way too soft. I'll probably add stainless lines and a fluid swap to the to-do list along with all the other fluids I already have on there. Tires were purchased in June 2022 and have just over 15k miles on them and have road hazard certs. Going to call the detailer this week and get setup to take it to him soon. Overall it was worth every penny I (didn't) pay for it.

Well the Toyotas in my driveway are expensive this month. This is the breakdown...

2001 4Runner @ 412k miles - all work performed by local shop
1) 90k service - timing belt, water pump, cam seals and such
2) Replaced the radiator
3) Replaced the fuel filter
4) Replaced the valve cover gaskets
5) Intake manifold issue - to replace the valve cover gaskets the intake manifold had to come off. A stripped thread was located that had to be repaired with helicoil. Also the mechanic replaced a bad PCV valve and leaking vacuum hoses (most likely cause of check engine light lately).
6) Supercharger vacuum hose port - thread repaired and port attached for boost gauge again
7) Spark plugs replaced (well past due)

2006 Tacoma @ 370k miles (last known) - prepping for work
Front end bushing and ball joints are worn out and the suspension is shot beyond shot. The recent conversations have been that we are goin to keep the truck for another 2 or 4 years so I need to get it up to par again. Shocks are ordered and LCA/UCA parts will be next. I am working out the options for parts vs time vs availability.

Shocks...

Picked up the 4Runner yesterday from the shop. After looking at the shop hours I think they were a little heavy handed but it was also a lot of work so I cannot complain too much. The 4Runner runs a lot better now. I am wondering how much boost it was losing with the center bolt losing all torque. It will spin the tires a bit too easy now.
