What have you done to your ride lately?

If you take off the damaged parts for the bumper it'll help save some money on the repair cost. Taking off damaged items is really easy for the most part. I saved $300 just by taking off the stuff myself and buying new parts like headlights and bumper etc...

At discount getting new tires. I only had 1 rotation left in my old ones and they had mine in stock and slightly used (guy drove on em for a day and didn't want em) so I got em cheaper. Keeping two of the good ones for spares.

That's what I need. More shit to pay for. The only thing that might save me from paying out of pocket for the trailer is the fact that it wasn't mine. I borrowed it from my uncle so it may get covered under liability. Won't know until the insurance adjuster come out.

$130 more in insurance per year could easily be replaced by saving on junk food, beer or entertainment.

Okay. I didn't want to say this but I will.

Personally I would hold off on anything that you have to borrow to buy. I fully realize that this may not sit well with you but I am a firm believer that buying what we can afford... not what payment we can afford, but what we can afford. It goes a very long way for confidence and long term security.

I have had dozens of vehicles and only financed one of them - that was my most recent 7 and only 'cause they offered me a rate that I could not pass up - IIRc it was 0-2%.

There are plenty of vehicles that are sub $30k. When I was your age I drove a sexy Baby Blue 65 2 door dart and a 77 Orange Datsun truck. IIRC the Dart had 250k on it and I paid $300 for it ($1000 or so in today's dollars). The Datsun was a salvage title - literally drove both of them into the ground and was laid in both of them - if it matters! lol

I know you have plenty more influences than I could ever affect but if you could embrace just a bit of that logic, I guarantee you that you will be richly rewarded.

Carry on.

Oh I'm a huge believer in buying what you can afford. The only thing I have a payment on is my truck. I have two credit cards also simply to help my credit score but I only keep them at about 10-15% of the limit, mainly buying fuel (I don't like swiping my debit card at the pump), and pay the rest off each month. They also have small enough limits that I could limit them both out and pay them off with one paycheck. Everything else I have is paid off. I'm just a cheapskate and don't like spending money :) But I like buying toys. But I save way more money than I spend. And other than my 4Runner I try to only buy stuff I can make money off of or at least break even if I have to sell it for any reason.

Nothing wrong with being a cheapskate... as long as the risk benefit is addressed too. Once again, sorry for your loss.

One last thing - and I know you are doing a great job of living your life and I should stay out of it. My first 'payment' ever (I was about 23) was for a condo that I bought and never sold. I would love to hear that you bought your grandfather's Dodge Cummins that had 127k miles and that you are now making payments on a small 2 bedroom home. :) I can not stand payments unless they are paying for an appreciating asset and produce the money that is used to make the payment. I am contemplating another of those purchases right now. Thanks for listening to an old man! lol

I'd be lying if I said the thought hadn't crossed my mind

Looking back I sure as hell wish I let mine float away during hurricane Sandy instead of saving her.......just don't tell her I said that lol

And this is the only reason why I am still driving my 9 year old Tacoma, at least as a DD.

Here's a nice Dodge replacement bumper. Wish I had better pics of it. Looked like it was clear coated. The license plate was wrapped around the other end.

Finally fixed my OEM boot. Used two hose clamps together to hold it down. The OEM outer inner clamp (if you get that) bc its diameter is smaller than 1/2".

I swapped out the break pads on my Tacoma. It is nice to ride around without that damn scratching sound again.
