This is my 3rd one I've built now and they get easier each time as I get the hang of it, I want to get a tube bender so I can try to make a few out of round tube, I think it looks so much better with round tube but all I can really work with at the moment is square due to only having a chop saw and angle grinder. Hopefully I can swing the cash for one this year and maybe a tube notcher as well. We added a mount for those traction things (have no idea what they're called) and will be adding a hi-lift mount to it one of these weekends. Just needs some paint now. I live 10 mins away from one of the largest steel suppliers in NJ so the whole rack only cost $100 in material to build which is nice compared to some of those vendors on TW that charge upwards of $300 for a base rack.
So what size did you go with? Those look considerable larger than the old ones... whats the plan? Do we smell the same mods Larry did to make room or are you cutting off the IFS?
They are super swamper TSL radials 36x12.5x16. I'm hoping to follow the Lurry route and just butcher the shit out of the cab mount (possibly just cut it off and relocate it further back) and cut the fenders back 2" or so. Hopefully that will hold me off from the itch to SAS, although I have been shopping for dana 60 parts on craigslist and pirate as of late so that could change at some point
Had a local guy stop by he had cut some 4x sliders off a wrecked takama so we welded them on his truck
Sleeved the legs with 1/4" tube to get them back to the correct length since some material was lost due to cutting them off the old frame
Frame plates made from 1/4" as well, cut the top corner off to use as a gusset on each leg
Welding upside down and in the dark sucks haha
Turned out pretty good
Now I need to start working on my damn truck LOL!
