What have you done to your ride lately?

On the cross piece, I want to put a small hat section but only if I have to. :) I am just trying to get it cleaned up a bit before I get an additional schooling when I go to my friend's shop to get the suspension back together. Amazing what a little peer pressure can get you to do. lol Now we need to send up a peer group to Boyds! :)

Wait, you don't see the pictures on the 3 posts above?

I only see the very first two.. the gaping crack and the tack welds holding it together.

If Boyd lived closer we could do an intervention. Show up with tools and an engine hoist. LOL

Thinking I need to slow my feed so that I don't deposit as much metal. Any opinions?

You don't see this one?

That thing was SHATTERED, SHATTERED, SHATTERED - tomorrow I am going to make something out of the lace on the side! lolf

And I realize it may just do it again but, if nothing else, it gives me that practice Blake wants. :)

That's Mr Asshole to you
Since you are working on it just do a full engine cage, long travel and spring under the rear.

Wow that thing is shattered like a shit sandwich that was smashed with a hammer. Think I would do some fish plates before anything was put back on.

Thanks guys. I was contemplating fish plates or doublers but almost think they will concentrate the stressors even more - this stuff is paper thin!!! I have much more work and I am sure I will use your advice on this deal somewhere - especially on those crumple zone cracks!!! :o I do enjoy practicing. :)

I'm also reading that I should try to push the amperage up a bit to see if I can get the welds flatter. I have to be careful since its easy to burn through this paper thin metal. :)

Is there a way you can get a piece of backing metal in there to weld the two frame pieces to?

Gonna try to go get some paper thin metal today and see what I can do. I really do think much of the cause will be removed once the bumper gets remounted. When I first put the bumper on, I liked about a 3/8" clearance and I think that may have started it.

I think you'll need to reinforce it. It'll probably just shear again bc the metal is so damn thin. My bumper reinforcement sheared after a month of fixing it the first time.

The front of the frame really needs to be redesigned with thicker material but the IFS cross members make it next to impossible to plate the frame. Unless your intent on some major frame redesign in cutting it off and rebuilding you'll just be better off with a much lighter tube style bumper
