What have you done to your ride lately?

Nice! I just got myself a set of A/C manifold gauges by popping into a Pep Boys that was going out of business. $65 for brand new gauges, I thought that was a score. Just so happens both my 4Runners have no air conditioning currently lol

Have a few parts on the way for the 4Runner. Nothing super exciting, just stuff to finish up reinstalling the second battery so I can get my winch and amp wired back up before Colorado in a few weeks and some Rad Rubber Designs splash guards. Picked up a Redarc BCDC1225D for the dual battery controller to take place of the PAC200 solenoid. Will allow for the difference in charging voltages between the stock lead-acid ignition battery and the AGM second battery as well as being able to act as a solar controller later on if I decide to go the solar route. Also picked up a PowerTray to mount it to as well as mounting an auxiliary fuse block later on at some point. I know I could have made something way cheaper but oh well. Dropping the 4Runner off on Thursday to get tire balance and alignment checked and going to have the shop knock out some minor maintenance stuff for me at the same time since I don't know when the new jack stands will get here and I'm running out of days off before the trip.

After the trip I'll be looking into replacing the rear links with some ResZ fab links as well as adding some KDSS spacers and redoing all four bumpstops.

Cussed the 2001 4Runner a little this morning. I took the trash out and noticed an puddle under the 4Runner. Upon inspection it looks like the transfer case it leaking at the front output. I will have to order the seal this week and deal with it next weekend hopefully.

Drained the diff fluids in the front and rear, cleaned up the axle and brake shoes from this mess.

New seals and o-rings showed up today around 5pm. Tomorrow I'll replace the seals, reseal the 3rd member, and hopefully button everything up.

Something I like about this forum. No talk of trading or selling. Just gonna order a new seal and move on.

I guess I'll just stick these pics in this post since we don't have a dedicated trailer thread.

I routed in these lay-flat tie downs so I can haul longer material and keep it strapped down.

I also put in 10 additional stainless steel tie-down points all along the trailer. I was tired of having to rig strap hooks to stay put or getting them in a corner of the trailer only to have them rub and tear the strap.

I still want to put in new trailer bearings and eventually I want to move the axle back to where it was (about 3/4" of the way down the trailer). My stepdad moved the axle to the center of the trailer years ago and it's always towed like shit for me since then.

Nice! I like it.

If I sold it I would just spend all the money building another rig and missing this one. Sure a 5th gen has more cabin room and is newer but they are dogs on the road. The 4th gens are tempting but I would have to hold out for a V8 and then would probably supercharge it which would bite me in the wallet. This 3rd gen has held up well and got me home twice now when it should not have. Guess I will hang on to it for another 100k miles and see where I am at with it.

I think I will be battery shopping for the Taco soon. Both of the X2 Powa's don't seem to be holding power. Unless I have something seriously pulling power from them when not on shore-powa, I think they both might be shot.. or close to it! It hasn't let me down on my short trips.. but if it was left unattended for a week they would be dead. So time to figure that out will be soon.

Drivers side seal and bearing is fucked, looks like I’ll be putting the press to use next week after I order some more parts. Going to weld on some diff armor and reseal the diff tomorrow then wait until new bearings and retainers.

Go the way of the Roger and order a fabricated rear housing. :)

i was seriously contemplating after adding the costs of a pair of new bearings, brake drums, shoes, and hardware. I have a trip out west in a month or so, so I can’t afford to have it down that long my luck it’ll take me a year to install a new rear end once it comes in lol. If I can limp by and get another 50k out of this though I’ll be happy and definitely will be upgrading the ass end next time around, not dealing with drum springs and semi float anymore.

All that work and you should get more than 50k out of it.
