I also had DT also check the TPMS in the tires, 2 of them are bad, guess I will replace all 5 next time I need tires.

What did you smack it on?

Nothing. Just the bushings are screaming. I'm sure they're worn out. Non-greasable and a bigger pain in the ass to change the bushings than to just replace the whole arm.

Do NOT get the Dorman LCAs from AutoZone. The LBJ on them is only good for about 12 months.

I'll more than likely go OEM. I've been doing some looking into the Freedom Offroad ones also. They will accept OEM ball joints when I need to replace them down the line.

In process of rebooting a CV axle. I'm to the point of hammering off the part that he references as the "tripod" in this video. I think they are also referred to as the roller head.

It comes off pretty easily for him, but is just deforming my brass. Thoughts / suggestions? (the snap ring has been removed)

Rotate it a small amount and make sure the cv is slightly supported when doing that as well

When I rebooted my RCV's I had to beat the shit out of it. Had a buddy who was a mechanic assist and he was also beating the crap out of it. A little un-nerving but it turned out fine. Hard to hurt 300M apparently.

I've got it in a vice just like he does in the video. Tried using an old flathead that has been deformed a little from previous use (softer than my dewalts) and that didn't get it either. I guess I'll hit it harder :D.

You might have miss the step about putting up on a car lift to assist

Oh and I watched a Youtube video from RCV I believe.. guy showed how.. hits it a couple times and its out. Yeah, that was probably the 12000th one he has done.

That's Mr Asshole to you
rebuilding a CV does not look fun at all.

In other news I have ordered a fair amount of new parts for the Tacoma. OME lift with Dakars, lower ball joints, sway bar bushings, bump stops, headlights, grill, wheels, tires, and to top it off a large "TOYOTA" tail gate decal.

So what I'm hearing about the CV is:

In the video, he takes the outer piece off. I'm stuck trying to get the roller head off (the other end). Though, at this point, I'm contemplating taking the outer piece apart instead.

@tex, what happened to keeping it stock?

Oh, and who bought the Camry?

Are you talking about those 3 little rollers (orange circle in the pic)? If so, just take a ball peen hammer and smack them off. They are super hard steel so you won't hurt.

Then you just use a socket to smack them back on. It's super easy and don't overthink it.

OR

If you're talking about the actual head itself, you'll need a 3-jaw puller. I have someone hold the 3-jaw while I use an impact to rotate the point. Use an expendable socket on the threaded rod's point.
