I painted some wheels for the 4runner. Decided to try this out before having them professionally refinished. I used Duplicolor wheel paint and clear coat. Really pleased with how they turned out.

I have about $25 or $30 in materials to paint those. Figured I would give this a shot first to see how they look and hold up.

I did the same a while back and used the VHT cast iron for the Tacoma wheels. Figured it would be an easy touch up when the time comes.

I think they turned out pretty good. Do you have a before pic?

They were not in bad shape but after 20 or so years they needed a refresh. Sanded down some curb rash spots, cleaned them really good, then hit them with scotch brite pads.

Looks like I'm off the hook for having to reboot the other CV axle. The one with a torn boot is the Cardone HD that has the lifetime warranty. OE axle is going back on the same side it came off and I'll get the Cardone replaced to have a spare on hand.

My understanding of the "HD" was a thicker/stronger boot. If this is the HD version, I'd hate to see how long the "OE equivalent" lasts....or maybe they just put HD on the box so that they can charge more.

Started tearing into the Tacoma last night to install the lift. Little more rust than I expected on suspension parts and bolts. Taking it to the guy who did my gears. As of now inner and outer tie rods on both sides, rebuilding OEM lower control arms from Zech, new SPC UCA, sway bar end links, sway bar bushings, brake lines, brake rotors, pads, and he will do the rear lift.
Sometimes you have to know when something is outside of your time, space, and mental limits.

rebuilding OEM lower control arms from Zech,
Glad those are going to a good home.

On a related note, I replaced both LCAs with OEM, both swaybar end links with Napa, and the passenger side CV today.

The creaking sound is gone, but I have a weird rubbing sound when going straight and slightly to the left. I don't see anything rubbing, so my guess is either the rotor splash guard (as I had to get a second set of hands to hold that out of the way when removing the old axle) or maybe I hammered the axle too far in? Both seem like they would rub constantly though...

I have had the rotor splash guards cause a noise that took a bit to chase down.

not me. I tackle projects no matter how complex and shitty, and when after I realize it’s outside my capacity, it sits on jack stands for several months until I can regain composure lol

I don't have a shop or space to do that. Also a torch would be helpful and dont have one of those.

Different gen model. I was surprised how many Toyota and Harley parts I have in my attic when I went up there today.

i hear that. Having a shop is a blessing and a curse. When I didn’t have one I was busting my ass to get things done to keep it from sitting outside with things opened up. Now it can sit forever with no consequence, so my mental model on how I tackle projects has changed over the past 4 years. A torch is one item I don’t own yet but they are def helpful when you’ve got rusted and crusted on parts. I’ve managed to survive with the suicide wheel and plasma cutter.
