Thank you all for the prayers and well wishes. We are OK, but my house is in bad shape. It is fixable but not liveable. Our neighbors have power now but my house has been flagged by the city and won't get reconnected until some repairs have been made and it gets inspected. It will be a few weeks to get electricity back on. We are in another hotel tonight but plan staying at this one.

I really appreciate all of the offers for help. I need help but we are living day to day. I am a little bit lost for direction myself and don't really know what to ask for help with.

I'll get back to you guys soon with some pics. I am working on a temp phone, sore and very tired.

Glad to hear the family is okay. Hotels suck but as least you have crappy cable right?

Good to hear from Ya, not knowing the how much repairs are needed, but it might be best to move everything to storage units, this will allow the repair process to go faster, less dust and debris on the personal stuff and with everything out of the house, you might discover some other damage that might have been noticed yet.

Like most folks, today and tomorrow were off work, don't hesitate a bit to ask us...and I'll head that way.

Exactly - if you want to get a lot of hands on site today and/or tomorrow just say it. Otherwise I have to mow the yard.

Sorry to hear about this Rob. That is not a bad idea to move everything out for repair. Let us know what you need.

Rob, if you can post some pics or text me some pics of your damage, I might be able to steer you in the right direction. If you send me enough detailed pics, I can probably work up a basic construction schedule for you to start. I can make it down this coming weekend to take a look at everything.

I've built and remodeled at least a dozen homes and am currently rebuilding one right now.

This. Get some of those storage cubes where you can load em up and they store em for you.

See if you can work a deal with your neighbors to run some heavy duty extension lines out of their garage or outside outlet to power your fridge and to have power for construction work.

Sorry for my absence, We have been working diligently trying to get the house cleaned up and our stuff moved out. I have the majority of our belongings packed up and in a storage unit with just a few pieces of furniture and some odds and ends left. My phone was water damaged so I lost all of the pictures I had but these 2 my wife took the day that the tornado came through. I have a temporary phone but the camera is awful and haven't been taking many pictures. I charged my tablet up and will get some pics with it today.

I have a 3 large holes in the roof and several smaller ones, it POURED rain for hours after so there is a ton of water damage inside the house. I am pulling out sheet rock and insulation as fast as I can but keep finding more ares where mold is starting to grow, I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up needed to pull out every piece if sheet rock in the whole house. Even with the roof patched up it is still leaking pretty bad so every time it rains there is more damage. Still do not have electricity but I have been running extension cords to my neighbors house for lights and to charge my power tool batteries.

The insurance company has us in an extended stay hotel room, it has 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, a living room and a small kitchen. It's pretty tight for the 4 of us and 2 dogs but I guess it will have to do. I have hired a contractor who specialized in insurance claims like this, he was an insurance adjuster for 10 years and knows the process, he will be handling the claim and the repairs. He says that we are looking at 6-8 weeks from the time that we actually get started, I am expecting the first check from State Farm this week so hopefully we can get going pretty soon.

Ill try to get better about keeping you guys updated, I have been very busy and very tired. I have lived in this house for 11 years and we have accumulated a lot of stuff. It has been a real chore digging through our belongings, salvaging what we can and purging things we don't need.

I think we all understand why you have been out of pocket. At least it sounds like you have a plan to get back to normal again. Still keep us posted if there is anything we can do to help; I know I would have no problem coming down and providing some man power.

I wouldn't doubt that everything needs to be ripped out at this point. Especially with how much rain we had over the past week. I would just go ahead and take it all out. It won't take a good sheetrocker more than a couple of days to hang that whole house.

Here's the cities website for all of the building codes. Look under "Adopted Codes and Amendments"
Building Services : City of Bryan, Texas

Framing- Need to check and make sure that your beams & columns are intact and not twisted. I don't know if you'll need to install Simpson ZMAX straps at every other 2"x4" stud on the exterior. (In Houston we have to install them because of hurricanes. I wouldn't think the City of Bryan would require it.)

HVAC- It'll all need to be redone. You'll have to run all new R8 flex lines. (I can't remember what the R rating for solid duct is off the top of my head. I'll post it when I remember it later).

Electrical- It's possible that it can be salvaged. But I don't know what it looks like on the inside. You might have to update all your breakers in the panel box to Arc fault breakers. (Ground fault for bathrooms or kitchen circuits).

Plumbing- hopefully it can all be reused or replaced. I need to see more pics of the inside.

Energy code- Since you are remodeling your house, you'll have to meet the new Energy code and it looks like Bryan is following it as well. New windows and doors must have a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient of 0.25 or less. So I'd try to keep any exterior windows or doors if possible or try to make it look like they are old windows/doors. All exterior walls MUST have R-13 insulation installed in them and the new attic insulation must be R-38. All penetrations into stud walls or exterior walls must be sealed (i.e. where the electrical goes through the 2"x4" header down to the plug. Spray some expanding foam in the hole to seal it). Make sure your contractor knows this.
REScheck | Building Energy Codes Program
You'll have to hire an independent contractor to come out to do an inspection before you cover the walls in sheetrock.

Just make sure you keep every receipt and log all of the hours you worked on your house. We went through insurance when we lost part of the roof on my mom's house during Ike. They screwed us out of a bunch of money and we paid for quite a bit out of pocket. Hopefully you won't go through what we did.

I'll PM you my cell#. Feel free to call anytime with questions. Let us know if you want any help. We're here for you Rob.

Just a random thought; did the 4Runner get hurt?

The 4runner got a few minor dents from the fence falling on it and the hood is gone. Hard to believe that I still haven't found the hood, lol.

Micheal, I replied to your PM, really appreciate your input. I still don't have any pics that are woth a shit.

The hood is gone? That is just odd but maybe we can come up with a hood to get the 4R back in shape.
