I finally have an update for the body repair. Got the tailgate on last night. Might sound easy but it was by no means. I had to break the quarter panel back loose in several places and adjust it to fit the tail gate. Spent a total of 5 hours cutting, welding and test fitting but I think I cam out pretty good. Also the rear quarter is fitting much better now and is pretty much welded where it is going to stay. I am ready to put the body work behind me for awhile and work on other stuff. Next I need to figure out the wiring for the rear window and get it working, I need a new switch to operate it off of, anybody have one or know where I can find one?

Notice how close the gap is.

It goes up and down pretty effortlessly. Latches like it is supposed to.

I though about that also, not sure what will be the easier. All of the original wiring to the tail gate is there and in tact, but I know I am going to need to run new wires for the switch. I am planning on relocating the switch, My console has alreay been thrown out & I just have an ammo can bolted to the floor. I am also probably going to add a switch in the cargo area, and considering trying to get another lock cylinder for the tail gate so I can raise & lower the glass with the key, I don't have a key that fits this tailgate.

I noticed it was $$$, lol. I might try and set it up myself and see what happens.

You still have paint left over? When do you think you'll repaint the ass end of the 4Runner?

Yeah, I only used half of the paint I had, plenty left over. I will prob wait until next spring to repaint it but we will see. I have a few projects in mind for this winter and I am sick of body work at the moment. I will slap some primer on the bare metal and leave it for now.

UPS dropped off a box for me this moring. Downey idler arm brace! They are not making these anymore since Downey is out of buisiness, I got lucky and tracked down the guy who bought out all of Downeys stock when they closed. Got it from Victors Offroad for $64 shipped, not bad IMO. Cheaper than a new idler arm and I have been through 3 of them so far. I am hoping that between the bronze bushings I made awhile back and this brace my idler arm will last this time.

Thanks Chris

Wow, I need one of those too

You surely will, I have learned without a doubt that the idler arm is a real weak point in the IFS. We should also pull your idler apart and machine some bronze bushings to replace the plastic ones BEFORE yours fail. I can give you the contact info for Victors offroad whenever you are ready. You guys know I am all about making my own stuff, but for the $$ I can't make one this nice and pay myself minimum wage, lol.

This will be a simple install so I'll throw it on tonight for sure.

rob ill take that contact info also... and next time maybe we can get drew to come and help with the ecu wiring... and integrating the body harness and the engine and the ecu together...

I got the idler brace installed last night, 15 minute job at best. It fits really well and I am very pleased with it. Sorry for the crappy pic, seems as though the flash on my camera decided to quit working so I'll try again when there is some daylight.

Just out of curiosity would it be possible to mount a GM style 3/4 or 1 ton Idler arm assembly? I know they are vastly stronger but seeing as how I've never heard of anyone doing it it may not be feasible.

Not sure Randy, never heard of anyone doing that swap. I am reasonably confident that mine will be fine for awhile, It is beefied as much as it can be. I did get some better pics of it earlier.
