The idler brace? Downeys are next to impossible to find. You can get an NWOR brace for $75, it is a nice piece. Both Downet & NWOR braces are steel with a zinc coating.

WOW! It has been almost a month and a half since I have updated this thread!

I got a couple of little things from my wife for Christmas, and finally got a chance to mess with them.

Much needed steering wheel upgrade. Let me tell you that the original wheel in the 4runner sucked balls! It was thin and flimsy, not to mention sticky. It's a GT Grant 13" steering wheel with mounting kit.

This is the installation kit 3593 for Toyota.

I did not need to use a steering wheel puller to get the old one off. I loosened the center nut, but did not remove it completely to prevent smacking myself in the nose. Then pulled like hell with elbows locked and feet planted firmly on the floor board, rocking it back and forth untill it let go of the splines on the steering shaft.

The instructions sucked ass! The steering wheels are generic to fit a wide range of vehicles with an additional mounting kit, the mounting kits are generic to mount all of the different styles of Grant wheels. Both the kit and the wheel came with very generic instructions. After scratching my head for awhile and failing to figure it out I finally found an additional "instruction supplement" in the bottom of the box. Yes that is 3 sets of instructions to cross reference! As it would turn out I didn't need most of the extra parts that where included in the kit. They just put them in the box to confuse the shit out of you. In the end I am very pleased with the steering wheel, It lookss and feels good plus the horn still works.

Also a set of camo Cabelas Trail Gear seat covers. I got both front and rear, I don't think the rears are going to work though. These are cheap universal covers, but I am very pleased with the quality of them. They have several straps to hold them onto the seat bottom and the cords down the sides alow you to pull them nice and tight. The seat backs have a bunch of extra pockets for storage.

The front corner is alittle sloppy, but the do have velcro slots on the sides to give access to all the the adjustment knobs.

For the price of these I think they are great, nothing close to custom covers, but will get the job done and look pretty good.

Thanks, the steering wheel is a huge improvement, the stocker sure does bring the suck! When I was pulling it off I was worried that it would break before it let go. Not a lame comsmetic mod......like the seat covers are, lol.

Feeling pretty bad about neglecting the 4runner for so long, I have plenty of things I could be doing to it, just been a combination of broke, lazy and busy with other things. I left it in the garage last night and plan to get back busy on it in the evenings. I have been daydreaming about my drive train lift alot lately. I am about ready to start ordering some parts for that, the motor mount spacers from 4crawler have a 5-6 week lead-time so I will order them first. Still on the fence on weather to make my own body lift or order one from 4crawler, they are only $102 with the heavy duty hardware upgrade so I am leaning on just buying one. I definatly have my mind made up on a Bud Built crossmember, but that is the most expensive piece by a long shot.

Here are all of my links.

Notice the $100 price difference between the auto trans and Manual trans crossmembers? I emailed Bud yesterday to see what the main difference is between the 2 and if I could easily modify the maunal trans one to work with my auto. I got back to me promptly and gave me the answers I was looking for. What a great guy! I did not expect him to be so forth coming with the info.

Got the rear seat cover installed last night, it was a much bigger pain to get on, and I am less happy with it. I had to remove the head rest, they where stopping it from pulling tight and looking good, Also by putting this on I have lost the ablity to flip the seats down because the cover is one piece. Good news is that this cover is way big for my seat, so I am thinking about cutting it and having the wife do a little sewing project for me.

Yanked the cruise control off the truck also. You don't need cruise control on a trail truck anyways and I need the realestate to mount my fuse box. Had planned on mocking up a bracket but silly me left the fuse block in my office at work, so I went to bed early instead.

Last nights project was to get the fuse box mounted, there was not enough flat area to put it in a way that I was happy with so I decided to make a bracket.

Cardboard (beer box) template

Used 16 gauge sheet metal and cut out the shape with my grinder and cut off wheel

Used a small torch to heat it up and make it easier to bend

A little primer and paint

Finally the finished product.

No, didn't have to heat it up, but it bends much tighter and nicer if you do.

Looks really nice Rob. I need to figure out wher I can mount mine as well. I chopped out a lot of inner fender when the Shock hoops got put in.

Thanks Chris, your rig is looking great BTW. You still plan on taking it to Jambo?

I found my original center console in a box of parts that came with the truck and was happy to find that the power window switch was still in it. Also had a window lock button? My front windows are manual so it must be for the rear. Bad news is that the wiring that the switches plug into is nowhere to be found. There was no tailgate on the truck when I got it so there is no telling. I have the new tailgate's wiring plugged in to the body harness, but the body wiring has a couple of quick splices and one wire that is broken but I cannot find the other end. I'm sure this is going to be fun to figure out. I really want to get that window working, I'm considering re-wiring the whole thing with the factory switch, and bypass all of the safety crap with the tail gate.

Gonna try. Depends on what pops up with work. Do you still have that horn and those fittings for the diff breather extensions for me ?
