I like those lights. I'll keep those in mind in case the stock taillights don't make it back on the Runner after the rebuild.

I bought those for my '87 4R actually. @SMKYTXN has them on his truck I believe. They look good, work good, and are cheap on Amazon.

Is there any reason I could not use a transmission out of a 2x4 4Runner in my 4x4 4Runner?

Tail housings are different, you could swap all the guts over but there is no provision for the transfer case on the 2wd a340. There is an adapter from inchworm to mate a case to it but it's expensive and you have to run an old school gear driven case

He also said expensive. That makes it prohibitive for my budget right now. Just trying to find a decent used transmission, get the valve body upgraded, and out another 100k miles on it over the next 3 years.

Get the one you already have rebuilt?

Soon as I say "supercharger" every shop shuts me down. Nobody wants to touch it then and it negates most warranties.
Really? Hmmm guess I've never had that issue ya lucky bastard lol What about if you just bring the tranny in yourself without saying you had a supercharger?

Or do what Randy said and run a gear driven case with 4.7s

The adapter is around 700 and then you have to run a lefty for another 1000 or change over to a passenger drop with an axle swap

Lucky is a 50/50 thing in this case. It still looks like my best bet will be a low mileage used trans and having the valve body upgraded before installing it in my 4R.

As for all that left hand/SAS install... hard pass right now.

Why not just get a crate unit from IPT? But if your dead set on a local rebuild I would call up beartrax and see what they have to say, it's something I'm sure they have dealt with before

Had to look up IPT. They might be a valid option depending on what I can find. The biggest issue is cash since I am still putting money away for my wife's college classes. The main goal is to come out of this with a better trans than I have now with a few upgrades applied to it. I just need to get 2-3 years down the road so as to get past these college classes.

Also ordered what should be the last of the little parts I needed to install my switch bank. So I will be trying to knock that out this weekend if the brown truck drops everything off in time.

Well after all the planning and wiring it works on the table; time to put this switch panel in the dash.

That was my testing setup for checking all the cables on the table. It worked really well; think I will have to rig a small adapter so as to just plug in the 9v battery and clip the alligator clips as needed to power and ground. Panel is installed but will be coming back out for a few modifications after I get home from North Carolina. The single din switch blank needs a cross bar to zip tie cables to so as to relieve stress on the crimped connections and prevent the wires from being pulled out while reassembling the dash. Trust me - it happens.
