Well 300k is nothing to be disappointed in. She looks fantastic for that many miles.

Thanks, it has not had an easy life.

Do those have a separate trans coolers?

Stock did not; I set it up to run through the radiator and then through a B&M cooler before going back into the trans. The solenoid swap fixed part of the problem but I am going to take it to a transmission shop tomorrow to get diagnostic shake down and quote for replacing the torque converter. But for now I am just enjoying the odometer.

Where are you taking it? Peacock's in Cleburne has always been great if you want to get another quote. They're the ones that rebuilt the A750 in my dad's Sequoia.

Thanks; going to call around. Doing the math to help me decide if I just want to drop in a new Toyota transmission. I do not think I trust a junkyard transmission anymore considering the age of any 3rd gen transmission and that I have to have an 01-02 4wd transmission. Previous searches have been tough with good used transmissions pushing close to the range of a rebuild.

I am 50/50 on doing a rebuild on this transmission. It seems a common failure for the 01-02 4Runner, 01-03 Tacoma, and 00-03 Tundra is the output gear failing and trashing the insides. Since the labor costs will be the same to remove/install the transmission I am debating just putting a new one in it.

With that many miles, I would replace or rebuild the whole transmission, dosnt make sense to replace partial parts in a wore out xsmn.

As I am digging more and more into some of the common issues I am going towards a new trans. It appears Toyota used some new bearings for that year range that did not hold up well behind supercharged and V8 motors. The bearing was identified and replaced so it is an issue for a small year range of transmissions. I am waiting on a response from Camelback to see what the turn around time on a new transmission is. I might just purchase it locally since there is only a $200 difference between in store and online. It has a $1000 core charge so it will take a few bucks to get this plan rolling.

and xsmn = transmission, common term used in aviation for when we abbreviated in log books when working on or near the xsmn or when we pulled oil samples from the xsmn.

Biggest question in my mind has been if it is worth it. I did some Craigslist shopping and see the built 3rd gen 4Runners are still pulling values over $8,000 even with high mileage. So with that info I do believe it is a worth while investment. My work mileage is dropping some so I do not expect to rack up the miles as aggressively as before which will help my overall value. Either way as long as my sammich maker is going to college my slush fund is not ready for a new car payment. So I have another 3-4 years before I can look for a significant vehicle upgrade.

Welp I would say spend a little more and buy my runner but it's getting fixed now, so that's not gonna happen

It was debated when I was napping out my options. But overall this gets me up and running the most cost effective and durable.

After the 12k mile warranty is up I will put a transgo shift kit in the transmission. After that I expect it to be bullet proof.

So the 4Runner is getting spoiled this week. A new transmission on Wednesday and new tires on Friday. Sheesh.

Old - 265/75/16 Hankook DynaPro ATM (+31")
New - 285/75/16 Cooper Discoverer ATP (+32")

I wanted to go 255/85/16 but could not justify the extra $25 per tire. Then the special ordering and waiting.

Will post pics once done.

Thanks. I think the front needs a few more pounds of pressure but will have to wait till the rain stops to do the chalk test.
