Actually I bought all new mounting hardware for my skids from him a few years ago, stainless stuff. IIRC he answered the phone then as well.

I plan to go with Bud for a full set of Tacoma skids. Which make me think... I cant believe I never got skids for this thing before.

They make an thinner steel set of skids they call the "overlander". Just a tad lighter than their regular skids. I won't be going with aluminum again, but may consider these for the 4runner.

I like Bud. I don't have his underbelly skids but he was great to deal with when I needed gas tank skid mounting hardware for one of his gas tank skids I got "used/never installed" from a third party for cheap.

I've only ever heard good things about Bud. We used to drive past him when visiting family in NC.

I'm close enough that if I ever purchased anything from him now that I would just go pick it up :)

That's how I got my gas tank skid. Drove down to pick up suspension for myself and a full set of bud built skids for someone else. My only charge for the transport for the skids was that I wanted to buy the gas tank skid out of the package. Ended up working out pretty good as the guy who bougtht the skids ended up putting one of those expensive "extended range" tanks in his Tacoma anyway.

Upgraded the mattress in the Tepui to their Luxury mattress. Seems ok, will find out after a couple nights sleeping. Ordered an ARB awning for the trailer. Considered getting a Batwing, but don't think it'll fully work due to the metal poles for the tent window coverings.

@turbodb over on TW, highly recommends the Exped MegaMat. So much so that I eventually asked him if he was getting an endorsement every time he mentioned how good he sleeps on it. It's pricey, but he says worth every penny.

First time he mentions it is here: AdventureTaco - turbodb's build and adventures

Most likely we will be making our way back next week, but it’s possible to cross paths, we will probably be in NM or N TX.

Every time I see one of those awnings I want one. Always liked their simplicity.

Off topic as always but if the tops of my windows weren't right up to the soffits in my house I'd throw one over my back deck to keep the sun from melting us.

Well, turns out they sent me a regular mattress. Part of the issue verifying the mattress was the zipper cover wouldn't open. After a return and reorder, our luxury mattress arrived today. I verified the mattress has 2 distinct layers and a blue mattress cover instead of the stand green mattress cover.

I didn't have much issue sleeping on the old mattress on our Colorado trip last week, but now I'm excited to actually see how this new mattress does.

I'll post at some point a full review of the trailer and how everything performed on our 2300+ miles trip to Colorado and back.

Cooper makes a heck of a tire. I was debating that same tire and size on my 4Runner next; but will probably stay with the ATP unless convinced otherwise.

My FiL has the Cooper ATP on his F250 SuperDuty with 330k+ on the clock and lives in the mountains. The ATP is the only tire that he has gotten 60k+ miles and they are still going.

For comparison, he wore out some Kumhos in 10k and another AT (can't remember the brand) in 30k. I think he said he got around 50k on the Michelins.

I really like the offroad abilities of the ST Maxx. I still had life on my old tires, but they were just really starting to wear unevenly, making for a noisy ride. Coupled with the fact they were stiff and heavy, and my wheeling adventures are fewer each year I needed a realistic change.

The AT3 design will do a lot better than most people think with a little airing down. I like the looks and capabilities of the ST Maxx but yeah - I do not wheel enough to put those on my daily driver. Maybe some day when money is not an issue and I have a dedicated expo rig.
