IMHO knowing what I know now I would recommend taking into consideration the weight of a second battery up front next to the other one. Our trucks are weak up front and already crack apart in that area so more weight could cause more damage over time. Ive got cracks up there with one battery and only 94k
Yep, it's on my list to get rid of my dual battery setup.

This is what I had when I first did this 10 years ago in my DC.

And you certainly don't need that 00 cable! I just thought a 97% efficiency would be good. :) I still want to remove the subwoofer and put both batteries on the other side.

00 cable is good to allow the secondary battery help out the main battery when you are winching.

The extra weight of a bug 2nd battery is the exact reason I went with a standard trolling motor for my 2nd battery. It only weighs 20 lbs, is a deep cycle, and holds up my fridge for ~16 hours when camping in the fall. That is plenty long enough for my needs. The weight savings are worth it.

Different stroke for different folks. I'm not too worried about about weight, I'm over weight as it is.. in life and figuratively. lol IF I was to do it again I might look into the golf cart batteries or those high dollar Braile (IIRC) ones.

I've been contemplating making a box and putting a sub back there, but I could do amp and battery on one side and sub on the other. That could be really cool and I could use the aux batt. to power the amp/sub as well as things like lights and fridge. That would alleviate some of the taxation from the main battery. I use the bed too much to put a battery there, so that is out.

I thought you weren't supposed to have batteries inside the cabin because of some toxic fumes or something. Anyone care to educate me? I think AGM batteries are safe though. So I would probably move the group 34 AGM that I had as the Aux batt. in the 4Runner (that is now my starting battery) into the cabin and then get an OE style group 27F to be my starter.

AGMs don't vent, you are safe with them.

When I see people with 3lb bikes - I laugh and say, just lose the 20 lbs you need to. It will be a lot less costly. :)

Neither do I and all I have is a relatively cheap solenoid with a hot to acc.

Guy on TW finally responded that he would look into shipping his dual batt tray for me. After seeing y'alls pics here, I think I'm leaning toward putting it behind the back seat. Cheaper and more sturdy.

And your inner fender well and radiator support won't look like frankenstein in short order. :)
